plexus Posted April 21, 2009 at 11:53 AM Report Share Posted April 21, 2009 at 11:53 AM Hi, I'm trying to find if there's a site out there where both the data collection and the website software are 100% open source/open data. For instance there's CC-CEDICT, the data is creative commons, and can be queried through the website, but the source code for the site (mbdg.org) is hidden from view. There's more sites that use the CC-CEDICT data but don't release the code for the site. This is by no means criticism on CC-CEDICT or mdbg, it's just an example. I was just wondering if there are any sites that do go that far, creating a web app with the code publicly available for contribution. thanks! roddy Posted April 21, 2009 at 12:04 PM Report Share Posted April 21, 2009 at 12:04 PM I'm not quite sure why you'd need this - surely once you've got the data the actual site is just some pretty simple scripts to interact with the database? Add flashcards, vocab lists, statistics, integrate with other data sources, etc...
roddy Posted April 21, 2009 at 12:23 PM Report Share Posted April 21, 2009 at 12:23 PM Ah, you mean where users can contribute to the code of the site itself. I was assuming you meant to people could take it away and replicate (and perhaps develop) it themselves. Somebody was talking about that a while ago - will find the thread and merge them . . Edit: Won't merge, as I'm not sure it's the same thing, but the topic is here: Open Source Mandarin
