tacoface Posted April 22, 2009 at 09:18 AM Report Posted April 22, 2009 at 09:18 AM http://www.leftworld.net/shequ/luanma.cgi?d=1 I'm learning Traditional characters to begin with and am trying to find a good comic which uses trad chars. If this one doesn't would someone be kind enough to advise me of a comic which uses trad chars. Thanks. Quote
yersi Posted April 22, 2009 at 09:34 AM Report Posted April 22, 2009 at 09:34 AM Simplified. The title, 乱马来了 would be 亂馬來了 in traditional characters. As for comic recommendations, what kind of comics are you looking for? What level are you currently at? Quote
tacoface Posted April 22, 2009 at 09:44 AM Author Report Posted April 22, 2009 at 09:44 AM I'm quite the beginner. However, I'm after a comic that native Chinese people would read, but is still relatively simple. I'm mostly going to be using it to mine for sentences, based on the ajatt method. Thanks mate. Quote
chalimac Posted April 22, 2009 at 10:12 AM Report Posted April 22, 2009 at 10:12 AM Check: http://www.yesasia.com/global/en/chinese-comics.html Most of them are in trad. characters. The Ravages of Time is the most popular. But you can also find Chinese translations of a great deal of Japanese manga. Quote
roddy Posted April 22, 2009 at 10:17 AM Report Posted April 22, 2009 at 10:17 AM I can never recommend this enough - anything that gives Cao Cao a sniper rifle has to be worth a read. Quote
renzhe Posted April 22, 2009 at 10:44 AM Report Posted April 22, 2009 at 10:44 AM 乱马 is awesome (I've almost finished the entire series in Chinese), but probably above your level for the time being. If you're only starting to dig your teeth into some Chinese-language reading, I'd recommend Doraemon, that's a decent one for people who know a few hundred characters. It's for kids, but most of the sentences are exactly the everyday stuff you need. You'll need between 1000 and 2000 to read 乱马 comfortably. Many of the sentences are about using this magic-toad-fireball-fist against that ogre-octopus-pantyhose-demon, and thus not too practical. Still, very entertaining. Quote
yersi Posted April 22, 2009 at 11:01 AM Report Posted April 22, 2009 at 11:01 AM If you're a complete beginner or near it I'd discourage you from using the AJATT method. Start with a textbook like Integrated Chinese first and move on to comics later when you know a few characters. Otherwise you'll just get frustrated very quickly. His method of immersion and sentence mining is mostly useful for intermediate learners who know 1000+ characters and have a basic foundation in grammar. Also, ignore what he says about grammar and classes, it's very bad advice and as a beginner you will benefit enormously from both. You should also avoid wasting your time on the "passive listening" technique he recommends on his site. Quote
