anonymoose Posted April 26, 2009 at 07:00 AM Report Share Posted April 26, 2009 at 07:00 AM Using these components: 一块 了 她 一年多 住 和男朋友 已经 how many ways are there to create the sentence "She's already been living with her boyfriend for over a year"? Basically, I'm interested in the number of different possible combinations. Is there only one correct order, or are there several possibilities? echo_zkl Posted April 27, 2009 at 01:40 AM Report Share Posted April 27, 2009 at 01:40 AM Mmm, I could come up with four ways only. 她和男朋友已经住一块一年多了。 她和男朋友住一块已经一年多了。 她已经和男朋友住一块一年多了。 她和男朋友住一块,已经一年多了。 And the last one is slightly different from what you meant to express. anonymoose Posted April 27, 2009 at 10:37 AM Author Report Share Posted April 27, 2009 at 10:37 AM Thanks for the replies, everyone. So my next question is, of all these different versions, are any considered to be more grammatically correct than others? If not, which sound most natural to a native speaker? Incidentally, this sentence came from a real conversation with a native speaker. Her original sentence was 她和男朋友住一块已经一年多了. I was just curious about the word ordering, since this isn't the order I'd have used, but then I don't really know which order I'd have used... skylee Posted April 27, 2009 at 01:20 PM Report Share Posted April 27, 2009 at 01:20 PM I don't know about grammar but the original version is what I would use, though I would use 住在 instead of just 住.
echo_zkl Posted April 28, 2009 at 06:34 AM Report Share Posted April 28, 2009 at 06:34 AM They are all grammatically correct and natural to native Mandarin speakers. Though they indicate different slippery overtones, very subtle and vague, I don't want to confuse you.
Guoke Posted April 28, 2009 at 10:46 AM Report Share Posted April 28, 2009 at 10:46 AM echo_zkl, G'day, Mate! Is it also grammatically correct and natural to say 她和男朋友一块住,已经一年多了。 她已经和男朋友一块住一年多了。 她和男朋友已经一块住一年多了。 ? Is it more natural to say 一块儿 instead of 一块? echo_zkl Posted April 29, 2009 at 01:14 AM Report Share Posted April 29, 2009 at 01:14 AM Guoke, They don't sound bizarre to me, and I'm pretty sure you will hear people say in those ways. yes, 一块儿 more natural to say, especially to northern Chinese.
