roddy Posted September 6, 2003 at 03:30 PM Report Posted September 6, 2003 at 03:30 PM I'd been thinking about commenting that while Beijing is pretty much equated with Mandarin, there're plenty of differences between Beijinghua and Putonghua, as anybody who steps out of the classroom and takes a taxi will find out. I came across an article by a professor from People's University on just the subject. It's all in Chinese, but I've ploughed through some of it and it makes fairly interesting reading. Interesting in quite a narrow sense, of course . . .Scroll down part 2 for the stuff about actual differences. Part 1 Part 2 There's also a short article about some of Beijinghua's idioms here Roddy Quote
