tianjinpete Posted May 2, 2009 at 11:11 AM Report Posted May 2, 2009 at 11:11 AM Went to the Tianjin Eye Clinic, took a routine eye exam ... Sat down, pointed up, down, right, left, whichever way the 山 was facing ... I was given a 1.0 in my right eye and a 0.7 in my left eye (corrected vision only, i.e., with glasses on) ... The young lady who administered the eye exam was too busy to explain what those “scores” might mean (two very long lines) ... I asked a few people who were standing in the two lines, they said that the charts on the right were scored on a 1.5 scale, and the charts on the left were scored on a 2.5 ... I was in the right-hand line, so I assume I was scored on a 1.5 scale ... Does anyone know how to correlate the scores I got with 20/20 vision? Quote
Lugubert Posted May 3, 2009 at 05:22 AM Report Posted May 3, 2009 at 05:22 AM "Standard" visual acuity is 1,0. The span between persons is typically 0,6-2,5 according to Swedish Wiki. German Wiki says that a 20 year old person will have 1,0-1,6, an 80 yo 0,6-1,0. Higher is better. 1,0 corresponds to 20/20; 0,1 to 20/200. And btw, it wasn't 山 or even the letter E that you saw. It's just a geometric invention to see at which sizes you see the three bars separated. In English, it's the "E Chart", in German, it's the "Snellen-Haken" (Snellen's hook) after its originator.
