LaoLiang Posted May 13, 2009 at 09:56 AM Report Posted May 13, 2009 at 09:56 AM Recently I've started to read on the way to work, which gives me about 40 minutes per day, which is not bad at all. I'm finding it a bit difficult to find texts which are suitable for my level while at the same time are interesting to read. Currently going over :汉语写作教程(语言技能类2年级教材对外汉语本科系列教材) 北京语言文化大学出版社. As far as vocab/grammar, the first half is quite readable, while only some of the stories on the second half are readable, mostly by context. The short "stories" themselves can be interesting at times, and in fact quite moving. I've tried other books from this publication but they were filled with boring propaganda and mindless data. Would appreciate it if someone who's familiar with this book could suggest other options. Thanks. Quote
roddy Posted May 13, 2009 at 10:01 AM Report Posted May 13, 2009 at 10:01 AM LF? How does this look? I wrote up a little about it here. That was years back though, there may well be better options. Quote

roddy Posted May 13, 2009 at 10:19 AM Report Posted May 13, 2009 at 10:19 AM There are scans on the link. Like I say, it's been a while since I used it, but I remember finding the stories and articles readable and interesting (I think they were 'real' pieces that had been simplified for learners, rather than written specifically for learners), and the exercises useful and engaging. Pity they only ever did the one book, really. Quote
LaoLiang Posted May 29, 2009 at 03:36 AM Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 at 03:36 AM Got the book and indeed it's not bad at all. Other than the fact that it's not boring, I like how they have PinYin for certain words within the text itself while at the end of the piece they have a list of the words without pinyin requiring immediate recall. There are also well thought questions for each section which help a lot with absorbing the material. Quote
