ChouDoufu Posted May 15, 2009 at 03:07 AM Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 at 03:07 AM nciku just introduced "Sentence Mode". Just paste a sentence into the search bar and press search. It will segment the sentence into words and give pop-up definitions when you move your mouse over a word in the sentence. I've seen lots of Chinese segmenters, and this is the best one I've encountered, bar none. Try it out! http://blog.nciku.com/blog/en/?p=1059 I can't claim responsibility for this feature, but please let me know what you think about it. imron Posted May 15, 2009 at 05:53 AM Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 at 05:53 AM Doesn't appear to be working for me. I get no sentence segmentation (Firefox under Mac OS X, from outside of China).
hanyu_xuesheng Posted May 15, 2009 at 06:40 AM Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 at 06:40 AM Just inputted... didn't work for me... (sentence too long?) Firefox, Mac.

waiguoren Posted May 15, 2009 at 07:01 AM Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 at 07:01 AM I've been using the MDBG Reader software for this purpose. The dictionary is huge and all the user has to do is slide his cursor over the text. Except for a few nagging issues, it was definitely worth the purchase. ironfrost Posted May 15, 2009 at 07:49 AM Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 at 07:49 AM For people who don't see segmentation at all, which version of the website are you using? Only nciku.com (the English version) has the segmentation mode, not nciku.cn (the Chinese version).
imron Posted May 15, 2009 at 08:14 AM Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 at 08:14 AM I clicked on the link above that says "try it out". I also clicked on the link on nciku's blog that says "click to perform a real sentence mode search". Both links which are provided as nciku.com automatically redirect me to nciku.cn without me doing anything.
roddy Posted May 15, 2009 at 08:39 AM Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 at 08:39 AM Is it maybe redirecting you based on browser / OS language?
imron Posted May 15, 2009 at 08:54 AM Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 at 08:54 AM Almost certainly. My language settings for the OS are all Chinese.
HashiriKata Posted May 15, 2009 at 09:36 AM Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 at 09:36 AM It seems to work for me (my OS is English XP). With regarding the segmentation, I didn't expect magic and so I'm neither thrilled nor disappointed. Nciku to me is as good as it's already been, but I think the new addition will be handy when you don't know where one word ends and another begins, and the segmentation mode will to some extent help stopping fruitless searches.
