Jones03 Posted May 18, 2009 at 09:05 PM Report Posted May 18, 2009 at 09:05 PM (I hope I posted this in the correct section => newbie on the forum) Hello everyone, I am a Belgian Information management & Technology student (bachelor's degree). Next year is my final year, and I would like to do my 3 month internship in China. Why? because I have visisted the country and am very insterested in their culture! I would like to see how I do it there when actualy working and staying for a longer period. Now, the problem is that it is hard to find a good intership position in China, especialy when you hardly speak any Chinese. I do, however have a classmate with chinese parents, who speaks cantonees & manderin fluently. He will be going too. My school had some references about past experiences, but there aren't many, and the companies have either retreated from China or were no good for internships. I have been busy mailing some international companies like HP and IBM, but I doubt that will work. I'm also mailing some smaller Belgian companies with Chinese partners. Can anyone help with finding a good company to do my internship? Or a thrusthworthy internship search engine for China? Any help/advice is welcome and greatly appreciated! -Jonas Quote
chyilande Posted May 19, 2009 at 12:09 PM Report Posted May 19, 2009 at 12:09 PM My friend found an internship through Hutong School. It is a foreign owned place (think there are even Belgian or Dutch people working there, not sure though) that provides Chinese classes, internship placement and accomodation. But I don't know if you are interested in the whole package. I don't really know about internship search engines. You can also try the internship at the European Comission in Beijing. It is unpaid though, and you would have to wait for a position to open first. Hope this helps a little! Quote
Jones03 Posted May 20, 2009 at 08:24 PM Author Report Posted May 20, 2009 at 08:24 PM Thank you, Hutong-school looks interesting! I'm going to see if I get any positive replies from the companies I mailed first though. If I can get into one of them it'll be without a "program fee". Did your friend have a postitive experience with Hutong-school? ..Good employement and service etc? Quote
chyilande Posted May 21, 2009 at 02:37 AM Report Posted May 21, 2009 at 02:37 AM She was doing her internship at a hotel, since hospitality is her major. She was quite happy with the whole thing, even extended it for a few more months, because she got to meet many other students in Hutong School, which might have not been that easy if she went straight to a company that had none or only a few foreign interns.I think she was the only foreigner at the hotel, but she liked the job, and they were happy with her. But to her, learning Chinese was also an important part of being in China, and I think she had two hours a day of classes in HS in a very small group, so she progressed quite quickly. It all depends on what you want. If you only want an internship, try finding it yourself. If you want a quick way to meet other people, to have intensive Chinese classes arranged around your working hours and also some practical things arranged for you, then you can try HS. Of course, it also depends on your finances! Quote
zhouhaochen Posted November 22, 2009 at 10:18 AM Report Posted November 22, 2009 at 10:18 AM hey, try the website of the German Chamber of commerce. They have loads of internships in China on there. Quote
