Help with translation for an Oral Exam

Hey everyone,

I am having my Oral exam on Tuesday and would like to have a set sentence to start with when I enter the exam room:) I thought about something like this:

我给你们讲故事以前，我想告诉你们，如果我要说错的话，就是因为我觉得很紧张。

So it should be something like. "Before I tell you my the story, I'd like to say that, if I make a mistake when speaking, it surely is because I am so nervous."

Would be great if someone could say if this sentence is alright, as I dont want the first thing I say to be wrong:)

"如果我要说错的话" - is that 要 as in 要是? If so, then either one of 如果 or 要 seems redundant to me. Maybe it's acceptable in colloquial speech, I dunno.

"如果我要说错的话" sounds quite natural to my ear.

Speaking of redundancy, both 如果 and 的话 does the same thing in the sentence (and the sentence can be made even shorter with just "如果我说错") but this kind of redundances make one sound more fluent and less bookish.

‘如果我要说错的话’ could easily be mistaken for 'If I want to say something wrong'.

My suggestion would be:

'如果（or 要是）我说错的话，那是因为我太紧张了。'
