Gaogao Posted May 26, 2009 at 01:16 PM Report Posted May 26, 2009 at 01:16 PM Hi! I was wondering whether somebody has met the same problem. I have downloaded the latest update of Windows Live Messenger, and it won´t let me type Chinese characters in the chat window. I can type all East Asian languages normally on my PC, no problem with that, only WLM. Any help appreciated! Quote
james_moat Posted May 26, 2009 at 05:05 PM Report Posted May 26, 2009 at 05:05 PM I have this problem with Microsoft Outlook for work. Since MSN Messenger became Windows Live Messenger, it is not only a huge resource pig, but actually not as intuitive as it used to be. If you must have webcam and audio, and only wish to have MSN people on your list, search for aMSN http://www.amsn-project.net/ It's a very good open source client, which actually looks like msn/windows live messenger interface-wize, which you may like. Give it a try, many useful tools, such as translation with a buddy from Chinese to English, or many other languages. Useful for very complicated Chinese characters people may try send you on these messengers. Alternatively, if you use many different clients at once (AOL, MSN, GMail), try: Pidgin http://www.pidgin.im/ I recommend both of them, although I prefer Pidgin personally. Quote
chrix Posted May 26, 2009 at 05:10 PM Report Posted May 26, 2009 at 05:10 PM yeah you could also do what I did: just use yahoo, their messenger is compatible with MSN. Restricts your use of emoticons tho... Quote
Gaogao Posted June 5, 2009 at 12:38 PM Author Report Posted June 5, 2009 at 12:38 PM I could not access pidgin, because my PC kept telling me I get a virus from the site, but thanks, I may try it later. Interestingly, later I managed to type Chinese without any problem. Sometimes it´s OK, sometimes not.... Strange. Quote
