waiguoren Posted May 27, 2009 at 09:33 AM Report Posted May 27, 2009 at 09:33 AM Hello everyone, I bought a new HTC (actually a 多普達) in 中關村 yesterday, solely for the purpose of using Pleco. I've spent way too much time trying to get it to sync. The CD that comes with it keeps telling me to install the newest version of Flash, which of course I have already done. I am running Vista, so I downloaded the Windows Mobile Device Center (or whatever it's called) but I don't know how to use it and I don't see any signs that Windows recognizes my USB-connected PDA. I'm running the Chinese version of Windows, which of course makes things much trickier for me. From what I gather, there is a "Settings center" (Windows Mobile 设备中心) and a sync center (同步中心). I gather I should use the latter, but I really don't understand how it works. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
Shadowdh Posted May 27, 2009 at 12:41 PM Report Posted May 27, 2009 at 12:41 PM Cant help you with the vista issue as I use XP pro but if you go to xda developers they have all the answers for HTC based phones you will ever need... Quote
roddy Posted May 28, 2009 at 02:54 AM Report Posted May 28, 2009 at 02:54 AM No real idea, but a couple of things I might try . . . Is the actual physical connection being made? Do you get any 'bing bong' plug in sounds, does the orange charging light on the device come on (it's orange on mine, anyway). Run through the procedures under 'My device is not able to connect' here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-troubleshooting.mspx Check to see if you can download vista drivers for your device (what is it, specifically) anywhere, and check to see what's on the CD - go into My Computer and explore the CD, rather than relying on autorun. Also, if you're using the device specifically and only for Pleco, there might not be any need to sync. Pleco installation instructions should cover how to install via a memory card, and you should be able to back up by saving a flashcard file to memory card and then putting that onto your laptop. waiguoren Posted May 28, 2009 at 06:30 AM Author Report Posted May 28, 2009 at 06:30 AM Roddy, I do get the "bing bong" noise as well as the orange light. The CD contains Activesync, which according to Microsoft doesn't work with Vista. All I want to do is 1) install Pleco 2) upload some Chinesepod MP3s/PDFs. I thought this thing would work just like my cheap MP3 player--the hard drive appears in My Computer and I can simply copy files onto it. But Windows doesn't show any new HDs. Argh.... Quote
roddy Posted May 28, 2009 at 06:38 AM Report Posted May 28, 2009 at 06:38 AM Not a full solution, but the easiest thing to do would be transfer stuff via the memory card, if you have one. Try searching for vista drivers for your particular model - that seems the most logical step. If you were on XP, it would work pretty much like your mp3 player, it's Vista that's the issue here. character Posted May 28, 2009 at 05:21 PM Report Posted May 28, 2009 at 05:21 PM I have Pleco on an earlier HTC. I was never able to get sync to work -- just install using a memory card. http://www.pleco.com/manual/wminst.html#card Quote
Brianlee0311 Posted June 3, 2009 at 09:19 PM Report Posted June 3, 2009 at 09:19 PM Hey, In my case, I just download Windows Mobile software in my computer. When I connect my HTC with laptop, software will find driver automatically then do this sync if I want. Quote
waiguoren Posted June 4, 2009 at 04:56 AM Author Report Posted June 4, 2009 at 04:56 AM Thanks for all the replies. I tried all the solutions recommended but Vista still wouldn't recognize it. As I was installing XP, the screen of the phone mysteriously broke. Now I am in the process of trying to fix the screen without losing a lot of money. Will probably do a write-up of my experience soon to share with the community here. Quote
