Keiana Posted June 2, 2009 at 06:31 AM Report Posted June 2, 2009 at 06:31 AM Hi everyone Before I apply for the 1 sememster program at BLCU, I have a few questions that I hope can be answered here. 1) Is the Beijing Foreign Students Activity Center the same as the International Students Centre? 2) Should I aplly for the course directly throught BCLU or through the ISC as I have noticed quite a difference in price but since I would prefer to stay at the ISC Residence, does it mean that I have to apply for the course through ISC? 3) Is it possible to have internet connection in the rooms of the ISC residence as I would prefer this than to go to use the shared internet area. 4) Is there heating in the rooms? 5) From personal experiences, would you recommend to stay at the ISC residence or the dorms at BLCU? 6) Is my room guaranteed if I book online with ISC? If not, how can I get guaranteed a room? 7) Do you suggest that I join ISC Club? Thank you Quote

sahra Posted August 14, 2009 at 08:09 PM Report Posted August 14, 2009 at 08:09 PM Hi 1) as far as i know "international student's center" is the new name of the former "beijing foreign student's activity center", so yes, it's the same. 2) i applied for the language course directly at blcu and booked my accomodation at the ISC. you can stay at the ISC without booking anything else there. just check "accomodation only" as programm name on the application form. 3) i asked about in room internet connection and got the following answer: "You can get an internet access in your room just by paying RMB150 per month at the front desk one you arrrive, by the way, we also provide free pick-up and drop-off service at the airport." 6) you have to pay the full accomodation fee in advance, so it must be guaranteed that you'll get your room. never heard or read anything else. i think it's reliable. i guess the answers are coming too late for you Keiana, but they might be interesting for someone else... Genova Posted August 24, 2009 at 12:28 AM Report Posted August 24, 2009 at 12:28 AM Hey hey, dorm rooms aren't guaranteed, even if they tell you so in e-mail/phone. It is first come, first served. I don't know how this is for the buisness centrum and/or other app. buildings close by. This I read in another forum topic. (so not from personal experience) About internet in you're room. For Dorm you pay a fee, monthly, around 150 I believe. Again, not from personal experience, but read it on the forums. Quote
XiaoBin Posted August 24, 2009 at 02:14 PM Report Posted August 24, 2009 at 02:14 PM Not sure what ICS is but maybe the following will help: No dorms can be booked in advanced. Only the Conference center you can book in advance. The rate is about 160RMB for short term stay. The longer you stay the cheaper it is. Dorms are avalible, but be quick to get them. The dorms you prob want are 4 or 17. The most popular dorms. They also have no curfew. Internet for dorms and campus are avalible. There is an internet shop on campus that will arange it. I believe it's 140RMB a month. All dorms have heating, most of them air con aswell. Quote
