Madot Posted June 3, 2009 at 09:56 PM Report Posted June 3, 2009 at 09:56 PM I understand, or at least have been told, that there is no such thing as the Yellow Pages in China, so my question is: how else can you find out if a particular business exists in a location? So far my experience has been that if a friend or acquaintance doesn't know, then you are basically stuffed. But surely there must be a way! I am trying to find out whether there is a nail salon in Zhengzhou that does gel or acryllic (sometmes called 'sculptured') nails but no one can tell me. Short of ringing the local Holiday Inn from Australia and asking there-- since foreigners might have asked before-- I can't think of how to find out. Can anyone help? Mado:help Quote
skylee Posted June 3, 2009 at 10:37 PM Report Posted June 3, 2009 at 10:37 PM I can't think of how to find out. Take a look at this -> http://blossomingsky.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!CE0A89B492538653!1069.entry If you want to find something in China, it might help if you search using Chinese and Chinese search engines. Not sure if it is what you want, though. Nail care is "理甲", "修甲" or "美甲" in Chinese. You might search some more. And personally I have great hygiene concern about such services ... Quote
akdn Posted June 4, 2009 at 12:08 AM Report Posted June 4, 2009 at 12:08 AM But it does exist. I've borrowed the local Yellow Pages (黄页 huángyè) from the front desk of hotels in loads of cities. For nail salons, try looking along pedestrian shopping streets or in some department stores. Quote
Madot Posted June 5, 2009 at 06:51 AM Author Report Posted June 5, 2009 at 06:51 AM Thanks so much for your help. My Chinese is pretty rudimentary so I can't look things up myself but now that I know there is the huang ye, I can ask friends for help. I wonder why THEY didn't know about it... Same goes for the web search. I'll ask a friend to follow your directions. All good! Mado Quote
