Hofmann Posted June 8, 2009 at 01:25 AM Report Posted June 8, 2009 at 01:25 AM I'm in a situation where I have one week to get as good as I can at calligraphy. I plan to just focus on 歐陽詢's 楷書. Any ideas on how to cram calligraphy would be appreciated. Quote

Any ideas on how to cram calligraphy would be appreciated. You’re a beginner, I guess? 欧阳询’s 楷书 is good for beginner. If you haven’t practiced calligraphy before and you have only one week, it would be better for you to focus on understanding his “ 结字三十六法 / 36 basic rules on how to write characters well”, which are quite practical. You can ask your calligraphy teacher to help you understand the rules one by one. -> http://blog.sina.com.cn/s/blog_507fa83d0100c2zo.html Cheers! Quote
Hofmann Posted June 14, 2009 at 01:19 AM Author Report Posted June 14, 2009 at 01:19 AM Well, I studied for a week, and today at the Utah Asian Festival, with the help of a few people more literate than me, I wrote stuff that people wanted me to write, as well as other stuff I felt like writing. It was both good and bad. Good: My aptitude was good when compared to my peers. Bad: My aptitude was good (!???) when compared to my peers. I mean...come on. I'm almost an ABC who crammed 歐楷 for a week. When I heard that they were good at calligraphy, I thought I'd be pretty useless. They even dared to call each other professionals. Quote
