hangzhoumatt Posted June 17, 2009 at 09:09 AM Report Posted June 17, 2009 at 09:09 AM Has anyone studied and taught simultaneously at any of the big Uni's? Or is the workload considered too large to do both at once? I know some friends who do it in Hangzhou, but no idea's about BJ, so if anyone has any experiences they can share, please do! Quote
gubokai Posted June 17, 2009 at 06:54 PM Report Posted June 17, 2009 at 06:54 PM hangzhou matt, i've heard of teaching positions available at universities, but a master's degree (or equivalent experience) is usually required. My friend is applying for such a position at Shanghai Jiaotong University. Perhaps you can email them and find out if they're still accepting applications. Shanghai Jiaotong also has mandarin classes. Quote
zerolife Posted June 17, 2009 at 08:31 PM Report Posted June 17, 2009 at 08:31 PM Are you looking into teaching English or a real professor position? I know a few with Bachelor degree (NOT in English or teaching related) and zero teaching experience that got English teaching jobs with Chinese universities. For non-English teaching I'm sure it's much harder ... I believe it's Ph.D at minimum. Quote
stoney Posted June 17, 2009 at 10:32 PM Report Posted June 17, 2009 at 10:32 PM Are you talking about teaching English and also trying to study Chinese at the same time? Of course you can study on the side, but I wouldn't teach and take a full time Chinese course at the same time. I have known a few people that tried this and they found it very difficult. Quote
hangzhoumatt Posted June 17, 2009 at 11:17 PM Author Report Posted June 17, 2009 at 11:17 PM Thanks for the replies. I was looking at doing a full Chinese course at one of the uni's (although still debating which one) and teaching oral English classes at the same time to provide me with some cash. I've been teaching English here for 3 years and studying a bit on the side but want to swap so studying Chinese is my main focus. I know it would be a lot of work, I was curious whether many students here do that or do people just tutor part time for some spending money? Also it has to be in Beijing as that's where my gf's new job is. Quote
