Hello everyone!

I had a question about the word beta/必应. Is this word pronounced bi4ying1 or bi4ying4? Is the character ying4 frequent at all? I always have problems with 多音字 and could not find this word in my dictionaries.

(I am also assuming that 必应 means beta.. perhaps it also has other meanings?)

Thanks/谢谢!

Apparently the name comes from the phrase 有求必应, at the same time it is also an approximation of the English pronunciation of Bing. As Skylee mentioned, it has nothing to do with beta. I would say the pronunciation of 应 should be yìng as this pronunciation means to reply/answer something.

I'm assuming you're reading that off Bing Chinese - the 必应 is the Chinese for 'Bing', not Beta. As said, pronunciation would be yìng - it's 'must respond', not 'must should'

Ah !! Yes, you are all right. Thank you so much for the correction (I made a false assumption about the word's meaning)
