renzhe Posted June 22, 2009 at 04:56 PM Report Posted June 22, 2009 at 04:56 PM (edited) When somebody is under the influence of light drugs like marijuana, people call this condition "stoned". A "stoner" is someone who gets "stoned" regularly, or is "stoned" all the time. "Stoney" sounds like something you would call a "stoner". The worst "English" name used by a Chinese that I've ever heard was "Stiffy". Which is even worse than "Stoney". An English name is supposed to help you interact with English-speaking people by giving them a name that they can easily pronounce and remember. It can be unusual (as long as it's easy to remember), but it shouldn't be something silly. Edited June 22, 2009 at 06:21 PM by renzhe Quote

stonelee Posted June 22, 2009 at 05:25 PM Author Report Posted June 22, 2009 at 05:25 PM [Anyway, I think you already have a nice English name: Stone Lee sounds good Why change it? /QUOTE] TO leeyah~ Because one English teacher told me that I shouldn't use"stone" as one person's name, just as someone should not use "lion" as his name . SO stonelee is already a good name ~? Quote
leeyah Posted June 22, 2009 at 05:34 PM Report Posted June 22, 2009 at 05:34 PM
HashiriKata Posted June 22, 2009 at 06:23 PM Report Posted June 22, 2009 at 06:23 PM Stonelee: you have to listen to my advice (because it's the best! ): Take "Stan", and with your surname "Lee", it'll become "Stan Lee", very nice! However, if you take "Stanley" plus your surname "Lee", your name would become "Stanley Lee", not so nice! Ok, make up your mind now (and don't listen to anyone else!) Quote
stonelee Posted June 23, 2009 at 02:51 AM Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 at 02:51 AM Now i pay attention to Stan Lee!! HashiriKata and leeyah~ Thank you for all your advises! If i choose Stan Lee,...i am not sure how to say it in English... 如果我选择了Stan Lee,Stanley 是不是可以做为Stan Lee 的一个昵称,或者是简写? Quote
heifeng Posted June 23, 2009 at 03:03 AM Report Posted June 23, 2009 at 03:03 AM ummm...if he introduces himself as Stan Lee...aren't people going to keep asking what his last name is thinking he's just saying Stanley anyway? Just a thought. hmmm, sticking to the stone theme: Just plain Rocky lee. It's a very unforgetable name and then you can go into how your name has all those 石 in it... Quote
HashiriKata Posted June 23, 2009 at 04:34 AM Report Posted June 23, 2009 at 04:34 AM 如果我选择了Stan Lee,Stanley 是不是可以做为Stan Lee 的一个昵称,或者是简写? ummm...if he introduces himself as Stan Lee...aren't people going to keep asking what his last name is thinking he's just saying Stanley anyway? Just a thought.Although Stan is short for Stanley, it can also be used as a name in its own right. So normally stonelee should just introduce himself as "Stan", and when necessary, he could add that his surname is "Lee". English speakers would then think of "Stanley" but know that it is "Stan Lee". Wouldn't this make the name more interesting and memorable? Quote
stonelee Posted June 23, 2009 at 04:38 AM Author Report Posted June 23, 2009 at 04:38 AM TO heifeng 黑风? a mysterious feeling!
