For instance, if you draw on your wrist a Rolex watch, or you paint on a brick and make it look like an old-fashioned cell-phone, or if you were a guy and you do a belly-dance, if you show these pictures online, some people might comment those are＂雷人＂，or ＂雷死我了＂! "我晕(I faint)，我倒(I fall), 我汗(I sweat)" all share the same meaning, which is "I'm so freaked out" by how 雷人 the thing is. "我靠＂ is like saying "freaking" instead of the other word. Recall how 靠 sounds, and it's not hard to get this. It's true that all of these are used among young Chinese internet users. Older people hardly get or use them. (est.) 90% Chinese today don't know this character. This includes myself. I wonder how they came up with the number, and I don't feel any shame about not knowing it. 3. Now the word has various usages on the Internet. Generally it's a "fuzzily" positive word and that's it. I believe that most of the times these days 我晕 is said in a non-serious way. The person isn't really feeling that bad. You can be "晕＂by your neighbor's shower singing, and you can also be Real "晕" by a very hard maths problem. Both are right, but It's just that people are more using this word in the former occasions now. I hope I'm highlighting the difference. zhen_shuai Posted June 23, 2009 at 04:23 PM Report Share Posted June 23, 2009 at 04:23 PM 囧 is also the original radical for 明 meaning 'window', according to http://zhongwen.com/. and I remember a professor once told me that there is evidence that 囧 and 明 used to be pronounced similarly in Old Chinese. not sure how they'd be pronounced though. funny, because so many people use 明 as an example of the radical contributing meaning! on the other hand 'window' and 'moon' as in 'see the BRIGHT moon through the window' is pretty easy to remember, too.
