Artem Posted June 24, 2009 at 06:13 PM Report Posted June 24, 2009 at 06:13 PM Google and Gmail are still out for me in Shanghai Quote
roddy Posted June 24, 2009 at 10:39 PM Report Posted June 24, 2009 at 10:39 PM All's normal for me here in Beijing this morning. If you're having trouble getting to Gmail, try switching between httpS:// and http://, I can see people saying that works, and have had to do the same myself in the past when one wasn't working for some reason. We may actually end up ahead if we get a spike of people searching for 'gmail blocked in China'. None so far though . . . See attached. Although that's not going to make much of a dent in the overall numbers, and a lot of them are actually getting taken to an old topic. Quote
roddy Posted June 24, 2009 at 11:28 PM Report Posted June 24, 2009 at 11:28 PM I'm not sure this is a block - maybe network issues, maybe a warning shot. My money is on everything working tomorrow morning Guardian also has it described as a warning shot. Nothing from Google saying it was a technical issue. See this for some recent background. Interesting. Credit to Google for not falling into line, but business is business . . . Quote
harry888 Posted June 25, 2009 at 01:13 AM Report Posted June 25, 2009 at 01:13 AM I'm having the same problems since last night and still continuing. Located in Shanghai. Can't access Google, Gmail, Adwords, etc. Gmail not accessible through https:// either. Who did this to us? Let's vote them away next election! Quote
Don_Horhe Posted June 25, 2009 at 02:36 AM Report Posted June 25, 2009 at 02:36 AM Me too, impossible to access Google, Gmail, etc. The forum is running quite slow for me as well. Quote
abcdefg Posted June 25, 2009 at 03:28 AM Report Posted June 25, 2009 at 03:28 AM Google is working without problems now (11:30 a.m. Thursday 25 June) here in Kunming. I didn't try it last night. Quote
liuzhou Posted June 25, 2009 at 05:26 AM Report Posted June 25, 2009 at 05:26 AM I was working on Google from around 7 pm till midnight last night and had no problems. I also used Gmail between 9:30 and 11pm. This morning it was still fine. Perhaps they forgot to tell Guangxi to turn it off! A friend in Guangdong, Foshan tells me Gmail and Google.com are still out at noon today. Quote
Don_Horhe Posted June 25, 2009 at 01:26 PM Report Posted June 25, 2009 at 01:26 PM It's all fine here now, there's access to everything, the forums are running normally, too. Quote
roddy Posted June 26, 2009 at 03:07 AM Report Posted June 26, 2009 at 03:07 AM Is anyone in Beijing (or anywhere) having trouble getting to Gmail over China Mobile's GPRS/EDGE network? Other sites are working, but Gmail times out with an 'HTTP gateway failed' message. Quote
gato Posted March 5, 2011 at 01:48 AM Report Posted March 5, 2011 at 01:48 AM Gmail access in mainland China has been unstable in the last week. Often I've had to use a proxy to send emails out. Apparently, lots of people are experiencing the same issue. See these discussions on Douban and Baidu below. http://www.douban.com/group/topic/17964126/ gmail这几天不稳定,google这几天都打不开 http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=1016250791 北京,现在是不是打不开Gmail啊 http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=1016454055 据达人分析,Gmail被分时段HX Quote
liuzhou Posted March 5, 2011 at 08:27 AM Report Posted March 5, 2011 at 08:27 AM It's not just Gmail. The whole internet has been slow and wobbly for days. It happens every time that bunch of pensioners hold their annual reunion in Beijing. 1 Quote
gato Posted March 5, 2011 at 09:52 AM Report Posted March 5, 2011 at 09:52 AM I finally broke down and paid for a VPN service. 12vpn.com, $35 a year with a 10GB per month limit, or $70 a year without a bandwidth limit. Speed is good enough to watch YouTube and Hulu. Quote
gougou Posted March 7, 2011 at 07:50 AM Report Posted March 7, 2011 at 07:50 AM I seem to be logged out of Google services a lot these days, especially after something got blocked. Anybody else having that? I never noticed it before. Quote
anonymoose Posted March 7, 2011 at 07:52 AM Report Posted March 7, 2011 at 07:52 AM They're probably deliberately trying to make using Gmail and Google awkward so as to encourage people to move over to other service providers. That way, there will be less of a backlash when they finally pull the plug. Quote
gato Posted March 7, 2011 at 08:18 AM Report Posted March 7, 2011 at 08:18 AM See this gmail availability chart. They are deliberately disrupting service on the weekends. There is a dip in service every weekend. http://www.google.com/transparencyreport/traffic/?r=CN&l=GMAIL&csd=1296969404651&ced=1299479400000 Quote
gougou Posted March 7, 2011 at 08:26 AM Report Posted March 7, 2011 at 08:26 AM Interesting, thanks for that. Seems to confirm Youtube and Google Docs to be "recovering". Quote
gato Posted March 7, 2011 at 10:11 AM Report Posted March 7, 2011 at 10:11 AM Spoke too soon. You see the reduced traffic to Gmail (from 70ish to 40ish) on the weekends in Taiwan, too. Quote
anonymoose Posted March 7, 2011 at 10:23 AM Report Posted March 7, 2011 at 10:23 AM I suppose they're also disrupting service at night. You see there's a dip every night. Or maybe people just don't use the net as much during the night and at the weekend...? Quote
Lu Posted March 7, 2011 at 01:34 PM Report Posted March 7, 2011 at 01:34 PM I noticed too. I thought perhaps it was the thing where foreign websites are slower, so I tried going through google.com.hk and that helped. Perhaps I got the problem wrong and it's a two meeting thing, but the solution worked :-) Quote
Loriquero Posted March 15, 2011 at 06:14 AM Report Posted March 15, 2011 at 06:14 AM Anyone using gmail with any client? thunderbird, eudora, Outlook... Don't know if there is going to be any difference Quote
