Loriquero Posted March 15, 2011 at 02:18 PM Report Posted March 15, 2011 at 02:18 PM Yeah, I have no problem with that pigeon, but I was wondering if there is a more "natural" way. Thanks gato Quote
roddy Posted March 21, 2011 at 04:45 AM Report Posted March 21, 2011 at 04:45 AM Google's called them out . . .there is no issue on our side. We have checked extensively. This is a government blockage carefully designed to look like the problem is with Gmail," said a Google spokesman. Quote
roddy Posted December 29, 2014 at 10:28 PM Report Posted December 29, 2014 at 10:28 PM BBC is reporting that in addition to the Gmail web app being unusable, it's now no longer possible to access Gmail via IMAP or POP3 (ie, via Outlook or the mail app on your phone). Anyone suffering? Oh, and just in case this is the last straw for anyone - don't forget to post here. Quote
anonymoose Posted December 29, 2014 at 11:56 PM Report Posted December 29, 2014 at 11:56 PM Yes, for the last few days it wasn't possible to use, but I did manage to use it just now. Quote
淨土極樂 Posted December 30, 2014 at 04:48 AM Report Posted December 30, 2014 at 04:48 AM Don't care, running a VPN 24/7. However this bit is worrisome: Others reported that domestic email providers had “proactively” blocked the ability to send emails to Gmail addresses—the user called this “just too funny.” On the evening of Dec. 28, Eastern Standard Time, however, it was possible to use Gmail to send and receive emails to the 163.com mail domain, one of the more popular email providers in China. http://www.theepochtimes.com/n3/1165359-china-blocks-access-to-gmail-servers/ Quote
Demonic_Duck Posted December 30, 2014 at 05:10 AM Report Posted December 30, 2014 at 05:10 AM Odd... the epoch times page is redirecting to "cjb.net" for me (with VPN on). Edit: setting firefox to disallow redirects, starting in safe mode, changing VPN server, and even trying to access google cached versions/internet archive versions make no difference. I assume this is the cause: http://www.peacehall.com/news/gb/english/2004/02/200402271620.shtml Any way around this that doesn't require highly technical knowledge? Quote
淨土極樂 Posted December 30, 2014 at 05:28 AM Report Posted December 30, 2014 at 05:28 AM @Demonic_Duck, this is called DNS poisoning, one of the features of the GFW. Here's a bit on it and how to deal with it: https://pandapow.co/how-to/dns-poisoning/ Quote
Demonic_Duck Posted December 30, 2014 at 05:46 AM Report Posted December 30, 2014 at 05:46 AM I tried all of the proposed solutions. None of them worked, I'm still getting the same thing. This is very disconcerting. Quote
淨土極樂 Posted December 30, 2014 at 05:49 AM Report Posted December 30, 2014 at 05:49 AM Turn off your PC, turn off your router, turn it all back again, and don't open your browser without starting the VPN first. Quote
Demonic_Duck Posted December 30, 2014 at 06:08 AM Report Posted December 30, 2014 at 06:08 AM That also didn't work. The redirect is too fast to stop with browser buttons, but not fast enough to stop the Epoch Times page from beginning to load. Quote
Angelina Posted January 13, 2015 at 03:15 PM Report Posted January 13, 2015 at 03:15 PM All of my email apps still can't refresh unless I use a VPN. Any news? Quote
gato Posted January 13, 2015 at 05:35 PM Report Posted January 13, 2015 at 05:35 PM Try forwarding your emails to a Yahoo or Hotmail account. I got sick of turning on VPN to check email myself. 1 Quote

gato Posted January 14, 2015 at 02:26 AM Report Posted January 14, 2015 at 02:26 AM Graph of Gmail activity in China since the end of December 2014. The Chinese government started block all access to Gmail on December 26. The government has learned that Christmas is the best time to do things away from international attention. Liu Xiaobo's sentence came during Christmas, too. http://www.google.com/transparencyreport/traffic/explorer/?r=CN&l=GMAIL&csd=1418630415110&ced=1421201717087 Quote
Angelina Posted January 14, 2015 at 02:37 AM Report Posted January 14, 2015 at 02:37 AM Baidu bought Google's leading AI researcher and Stanford academic, Andrew Ng. Who knows what kind of wars are these. Quote
Demonic_Duck Posted January 14, 2015 at 04:55 AM Report Posted January 14, 2015 at 04:55 AM The government has learned that Christmas is the best time to do things away from international attention. Liu Xiaobo's sentence came during Christmas, too. To counteract this, I propose that we rename Christmas to "Bad Shit The CCP Did Around the End of December Commemoration Day". Quote
