Guest Yau Posted July 23, 2004 at 06:23 PM Report Posted July 23, 2004 at 06:23 PM sure, i tried the beer duck in a mala hotpot. it's an experience of mixed tastes--- spicy and bitter, tasteful and wonderful. I tried it last year, and couldn't stop trying it again and again. Quote

Bamboo Grove Posted July 26, 2004 at 08:11 AM Report Posted July 26, 2004 at 08:11 AM Thanks Wendy, I will have to use a dictionary a lot as my Chinese has unfortunately detoriorated a lot during the 15 years that I haven't used it. But I'll try. Quote
chapka Posted August 9, 2004 at 03:14 PM Report Posted August 9, 2004 at 03:14 PM My favorite local Chinese restaurant (Grand Sichuan Eastern on 2nd Ave in Manhattan, NY) has a whole menu section of Chong Qing food with names like "Spicy & Aromatic Diced Fish" and "Chicken with Spicy Spring Water Sauce." The Spicy & Aromatic Chicken is the only one I've tried so far, but it's very good. Quote
TSkillet Posted August 9, 2004 at 07:19 PM Report Posted August 9, 2004 at 07:19 PM I want to like spicy food, but I am physically unable to eat much of it - I can eat some milder curries and jalapenos and cantonese versions of spicy food. So I was ill-prepared to visit Chongqing. In fact, my cousin who grew up in Thailand - she was ill-prepared too and she loves spicy food. It is hot! If you like that sort of thing - I'll recommend Sichuan Lao Canting in Chongqing. Quote
chapka Posted August 9, 2004 at 07:47 PM Report Posted August 9, 2004 at 07:47 PM Inspired by this thread, I went and got some Chongqing Chicken with Spicy Spring Water for lunch today, courtesy of Grand Sichuan East. Very tasty! And yes, quite spicy. Quote
Jamie Posted August 10, 2004 at 12:24 AM Report Posted August 10, 2004 at 12:24 AM The spicier the better! I am also inspired by this thread. Quote
