flameproof Posted July 18, 2009 at 09:11 AM Report Share Posted July 18, 2009 at 09:11 AM For those who updated to Firefox 3.5 (or 3.5.1) you probably noticed that Chinese Perapera-kun is not compatible. However, you can overrule that with this extensions: Nightly Tester Tools 2.0.2 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6543 After installing it in FF Chinese Perapera-kun work again normal as ever. flameproof Posted July 20, 2009 at 02:48 AM Author Report Share Posted July 20, 2009 at 02:48 AM Are you connected to the net? Was the PC switched on? You have electricity at home? If the answer to all is "yes", then, what exactly isn't working? I presume you have FF 3.5.1 and Chinese Perapera-kun 1.02 installed. Steps: 1. direct install NTT from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6543 2. restart FF 3. in FF go: Tools > Add-ons 4. in Add-ons click "override all compatiblity" 5. A window will pop-up with all incompatible add-ons 6. Click "Force install" 7. Restart FF Chinese Perapera-kun 1.02 should work now.
peekay Posted July 20, 2009 at 05:55 AM Report Share Posted July 20, 2009 at 05:55 AM Or, just use version 1.05 from http://perapera.wordpress.com/
hanxue Posted July 20, 2009 at 02:52 PM Report Share Posted July 20, 2009 at 02:52 PM You can also get Zhong Wen add-on instead: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11077
querido Posted July 20, 2009 at 07:42 PM Report Share Posted July 20, 2009 at 07:42 PM I followed link posted by peekay two posts up. Download the .xpi file on the left. *Open it with Firefox* and install it just like any plugin. It worked perfectly for me.

chinahandinfo Posted July 24, 2009 at 02:09 AM Report Share Posted July 24, 2009 at 02:09 AM Thanks a bunch man! love perapera-kun! but I've recently switched over to Google Chrome which in my opinion is a much better browser. Anyone know of any perapera-kun like add-ons for Chrome? Cheers.
Hobbes828 Posted July 28, 2009 at 10:26 PM Report Share Posted July 28, 2009 at 10:26 PM Much easier (IMO) than that solution is just to go the blog of the creator: http://perapera.wordpress.com/ His latest post is instructions to download a modified version that works with 3.5 from his site. This is listed as a temporary fix as he works on a new and improved version.
Hobbes828 Posted July 29, 2009 at 05:00 AM Report Share Posted July 29, 2009 at 05:00 AM Whoops... apparently I missed a couple short posts in the middle of the thread that already mentioned my solution... hehe... well that is an awkward first post in a forum... Oh well.
dajaphonics Posted September 16, 2009 at 02:20 AM Report Share Posted September 16, 2009 at 02:20 AM Before reading all of this, I uninstalled my version of Perakun. Now when I go into the Firefox add-on website, it doesn't allow me to download it because I am using Firefox 3.53. I was attempting to install an earlier version of Firefox, but decided to go with the zhongwen add-on for now. Is there any other way to re-install Chinese Pera-kun if I have Firefox 3.53? flameproof Posted September 17, 2009 at 02:03 AM Author Report Share Posted September 17, 2009 at 02:03 AM >> Before reading all of this There's your problem! Solution: 1. read above 2. no, really read above 3. install 1.05 from wordpress I use ff 3.5.3 and 1.05 works fine File name is: chinese perakun 1.05 (FF3.5).xpi
dajaphonics Posted September 17, 2009 at 02:27 AM Report Share Posted September 17, 2009 at 02:27 AM Gladder, which enabled me to access Wordpress, is blocking the box.net applet on the website. XiaoXi Posted September 17, 2009 at 04:00 AM Report Share Posted September 17, 2009 at 04:00 AM Or just install Mandarin Popup which is much better than Perapera-kun anyway.
gato Posted September 17, 2009 at 04:35 AM Report Share Posted September 17, 2009 at 04:35 AM You can still download Chinese Perapera-kun here: http://mac.softpedia.com/progDownload/Chinese-Perapera-kun-Download-33137.html Chinese Perapera-kun 1.02: Just tried Mandarin Pop. Doesn't seem to offer any advantages over Perapera-Kun. For one, there's no option to save vocab words that you look up.
PhilipLean Posted September 17, 2009 at 09:58 AM Report Share Posted September 17, 2009 at 09:58 AM I just installed Mandarin Pop, I am not sure if it is interacting with something else to produce this strange result, the first letter of some English words is replaced by the Hanzi for that word - a neat way of learning. gato Posted September 17, 2009 at 11:23 AM Report Share Posted September 17, 2009 at 11:23 AM (edited) the first letter of some English words is replaced by the Hanzi for that word - a neat way of learning. Could be a feature rather than a bug. Hehe. Maybe you are using this Characterizer plug-in. PhilipLean Posted September 18, 2009 at 06:26 AM Report Share Posted September 18, 2009 at 06:26 AM Gato You were right, it was the Characterizer working. I t makes a great combination with Chinese Perapera-kun
XiaoXi Posted September 19, 2009 at 10:31 AM Report Share Posted September 19, 2009 at 10:31 AM Gato it has much better definitions of the Chinese words and it will translate anything on the page, even text in form selectors whereas Perapa-kun will only translate standard text. There doesn't seem to be any option in this forum to quote people? Maybe I just can't see it..
