Chinese Perapera-kun in Firefox 3.5.* - here is how!

For those who updated to Firefox 3.5 (or 3.5.1) you probably noticed that Chinese Perapera-kun is not compatible. However, you can overrule that with this extensions:

Nightly Tester Tools 2.0.2

After installing it in FF Chinese Perapera-kun work again normal as ever.

Are you connected to the net? Was the PC switched on? You have electricity at home?

If the answer to all is "yes", then, what exactly isn't working?

I presume you have FF 3.5.1 and Chinese Perapera-kun 1.02 installed.

Steps:

1. direct install NTT from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6543

2. restart FF

3. in FF go: Tools > Add-ons

4. in Add-ons click "override all compatiblity"

5. A window will pop-up with all incompatible add-ons

6. Click "Force install"

7. Restart FF

Chinese Perapera-kun 1.02 should work now.

I followed link posted by peekay two posts up.

Download the .xpi file on the left.

*Open it with Firefox* and install it just like any plugin.

It worked perfectly for me.

umm I don't know whats wrong -_- and I <3 CPPK. It worked on my other computer which was XP and now im using Vista and it isn't working...

Thanks a bunch man! love perapera-kun! but I've recently switched over to Google Chrome which in my opinion is a much better browser. Anyone know of any perapera-kun like add-ons for Chrome?

Much easier (IMO) than that solution is just to go the blog of the creator: http://perapera.wordpress.com/

His latest post is instructions to download a modified version that works with 3.5 from his site. This is listed as a temporary fix as he works on a new and improved version.

Before reading all of this, I uninstalled my version of Perakun. Now when I go into the Firefox add-on website, it doesn't allow me to download it because I am using Firefox 3.53. I was attempting to install an earlier version of Firefox, but decided to go with the zhongwen add-on for now. Is there any other way to re-install Chinese Pera-kun if I have Firefox 3.53?

Just tried Mandarin Pop. Doesn't seem to offer any advantages over Perapera-Kun. For one, there's no option to save vocab words that you look up.

I just installed Mandarin Pop, I am not sure if it is interacting with something else to produce this strange result, the first letter of some English words is replaced by the Hanzi for that word - a neat way of learning.

Could be a feature rather than a bug. Hehe.

Maybe you are using this Characterizer plug-in.

You were right, it was the Characterizer working. I t makes a great combination with Chinese Perapera-kun

Gato it has much better definitions of the Chinese words and it will translate anything on the page, even text in form selectors whereas Perapa-kun will only translate standard text.

There doesn't seem to be any option in this forum to quote people? Maybe I just can't see it..
