beepbeep Posted July 18, 2009 at 04:42 PM Report Posted July 18, 2009 at 04:42 PM I remember hearing it everywhere in Wutaishan and I would like to know at least the title. It sounds like a classic to me, so it should not be difficult to identify by somebody! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6WX7R98L Thanks! Quote
zixingche Posted July 20, 2009 at 10:04 AM Report Posted July 20, 2009 at 10:04 AM I don't anything about Buddhism or Buddhist music so this just guessing. The words sound like "om sa chi lei na" or "om san cha lei na" The first syllable possible could be om or aum, as in "Om Mani Padme Hum", which seems to be a phrase that's recited repeatedly when chanting, like the phrase "Namo Amitabha" (Na mo Amituofo in Chinese). I found this from a web search: "The om syllable is often written with the Chinese character 唵 (pinyin ǎn) or 嗡 (pinyin wēng)". I've never heard the melody before. Quote
beepbeep Posted July 21, 2009 at 06:56 PM Author Report Posted July 21, 2009 at 06:56 PM Thanks zixingche! I tried to find something useful with your thoughts in mind with no luck. It sounds to me like "om sha che le na" but I neither know Pinyin nor any Mandarin/Cantonese I found the following site interesting. It lets you write in Pinyin and listen to the words. http://www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindict.php Come on, ladies and gentlemen!! It is a matter of one sentence!! We can do it!! Quote

Really? Could it be censoring by the Chinese government again? I downloaded the song and it turns out to be an mp3, which opened up my iTunes and played the song. Still couldn't figure it out. Maybe it could be like "Om mani padme hum" which is actually in Tibetan? It could be any language where Buddhism is a religion in the area in any country: China, Vietnam, Thailand, Kampuchea, Tibet & Sri Lanka? etc... Quote
zixingche Posted July 31, 2009 at 01:47 PM Report Posted July 31, 2009 at 01:47 PM The link in the first post is still working. I gather Megaupload is based in HK. I could be wrong, but I think when Chinese buddhists chant, they don't actually pronounce written characters in the normal way, but in an approximation of Sanskrit. I would suggest asking on a buddhism forum/website. Quote
