muirm Posted July 19, 2009 at 12:38 AM Report Share Posted July 19, 2009 at 12:38 AM I thought I'd post a shameless plug for for my new iPhone app Bang. It's a simple, straightforward Chinese-English dictionary with a few other useful study aids built in. It's currently priced at $0.99, but I may adjust the price depending on how sales go. I wish I had some promotional codes to give away, but unfortunately my app was stuck with an NC-17 rating due to the... completeness of the dictionary content (and Apple no longer lets developers obtain promo codes for "adult" applications). If anyone does happen to try it out, I would love feedback and feature requests. I basically designed it for myself, so I'm in need of unbiased opinions. It uses CC-CEDICT for its dictionary content, so it contains tons of entries including many modern high-tech and slang phrases.
phyrex Posted July 19, 2009 at 02:49 AM Report Share Posted July 19, 2009 at 02:49 AM What makes it better than all the other dictionary apps out there?
muirm Posted July 19, 2009 at 03:00 AM Author Report Share Posted July 19, 2009 at 03:00 AM I would say there are 3 main factors that set Bang apart (in its current version): - ability to add custom entries that are integrated everywhere just like native dictionary entries - clean, intuitive, fast UI and search experience - cheap (I know there are a few free apps out there, but I haven't tried them extensively so I'm not sure if they are comparable)
phyrex Posted July 19, 2009 at 03:05 AM Report Share Posted July 19, 2009 at 03:05 AM Hey muirm, thanks for the answer. It might be interesting for you to hear that my favorite dictionary app is KTdict. It has some nice features like showing the characters of a word in big and then looking up more based upon that and stuff. It's hard to explain, but useful ;) I'm not sure if it's free, but you migt want to have a look at it and compare your app against this one
