GaHanna Posted July 21, 2009 at 01:29 PM Report Posted July 21, 2009 at 01:29 PM So which one of you lucky people will be able to experience the phenomenon of the longest eclipse in a century anywhere in the world? I am up north so I do not expect much, although I experienced a partial eclipse in London and it was wonderful! Quote
Guili Posted July 21, 2009 at 06:22 PM Report Posted July 21, 2009 at 06:22 PM I am in Shanghai, but it is going to rain tomorrow,so don't expect too much Quote
Meng Lelan Posted July 21, 2009 at 10:46 PM Report Posted July 21, 2009 at 10:46 PM Is it going to be visible at all in Beijing? Was the weather indeed cloudy and rainy for the eclipse? Quote
roddy Posted July 22, 2009 at 12:56 AM Report Posted July 22, 2009 at 12:56 AM Partial eclipse in Beijing, but it's incredibly hazy. Couldn't even see the sun when I was outside just now, no shadows being cast. Peaks at 9.25 so I guess I'll pop out and try and see something, but not expecting much beyond a general darkening. Quote
Meng Lelan Posted July 22, 2009 at 01:13 AM Report Posted July 22, 2009 at 01:13 AM (edited) Oh what fun that would be, darkness at midmorning, or something like that. I think they had tour packages in south China for tourists wanting to see the eclipse in prime viewing areas, but I think the weather forecast isn't good. Xinhuashe just posted photos of the solar eclipse taken in Ningxia, really nice ones. Edited July 22, 2009 at 02:58 AM by Meng Lelan new info Quote
roddy Posted July 22, 2009 at 04:42 AM Report Posted July 22, 2009 at 04:42 AM Didn't bother going out - there was no way anything was going to be visible, it wasn't even that much darker - 8am levels of light at 9.30am, nothing spectacular. BTV reckoned you could see it through the clouds for a few seconds. Anyone in Beijing have better luck? And where are our Shanghai correspondents? Quote
imron Posted July 22, 2009 at 06:53 AM Report Posted July 22, 2009 at 06:53 AM Blinded by the (lack of) light. Quote
gato Posted July 22, 2009 at 07:22 AM Report Posted July 22, 2009 at 07:22 AM Reading of fine particulate matters in Beijing is especially high today. Well, "hazardous." That might explain the haze. http://twitter.com/Beijingair 7-22-2009 ; 14:00 ; Latest Hour ; 0.323 ; 445 ; Hazardous ; Today's Avg ; 0.206 ; 256 ; Very Unhealthy11 minutes ago from API 7-22-2009 ; 13:00 ; Latest Hour ; 0.307 ; 413 ; Hazardous ; Today's Avg ; 0.198 ; 248 ; Very Unhealthy Quote

roddy Posted July 22, 2009 at 07:27 AM Report Posted July 22, 2009 at 07:27 AM "Hazardous" . . .great. It's cleared up slightly now, but this morning and yesterday evening was about as bad as I've seen it this year. Quote
Guili Posted July 22, 2009 at 08:47 AM Report Posted July 22, 2009 at 08:47 AM It rained in Shanghai, but was totally dark Quote
Prodigal Son Posted July 22, 2009 at 02:13 PM Report Posted July 22, 2009 at 02:13 PM same thing in Chengdu; cloudy, couldn't see the sun. rained immediately afterwards. It was totally dark, though. Quote
gougou Posted July 23, 2009 at 08:03 AM Report Posted July 23, 2009 at 08:03 AM Right now, it is a lot darker than yesterday morning. Actually, it is about as dark as yesterday night... Quote
roddy Posted July 23, 2009 at 08:15 AM Report Posted July 23, 2009 at 08:15 AM I haven't seen the sun since yesterday. Did they put it back? I've moved to the balcony to enjoy the storm. Quote
