flameproof Posted July 25, 2009 at 03:10 AM Report Posted July 25, 2009 at 03:10 AM What's the name of the amateur "Living Together" soap series in Chinese? Here is the story behind it.... but no Chinese names...: http://shanghaiist.com/2009/07/23/student-made_drama_subject_to_censo.php Quote
roddy Posted July 25, 2009 at 03:52 AM Report Posted July 25, 2009 at 03:52 AM Took a little bit of a hunt, but it's 大学生同居的事儿 (verycd link). Would have been easier to find if they'd stuck to the reliable old XXX的故事 formula . . . Downloading the first episode, could be fun. It's online here. Quote
gato Posted July 25, 2009 at 04:23 AM Report Posted July 25, 2009 at 04:23 AM You can watch it online here: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XODYwNDYzNDQ=.html 大学生同居的事儿 Quote

flameproof Posted July 25, 2009 at 02:45 PM Author Report Posted July 25, 2009 at 02:45 PM The emule RMVB has a good resolution (??? x 576), but they run bad on VLC (has a green box on the right side 1/3 of the screen). Aspect ratio is wrong too. The Youku *.flv videos are fine, (hard to download though) but their resolution is only 320 x 256 - a bit small for TV. I am still investigating the problem.... Quote
msittig Posted July 25, 2009 at 03:41 PM Report Posted July 25, 2009 at 03:41 PM Flameproof: Youku splits their flv's into n-minute segments, making them a pain to download. Tudou keeps them in one piece, so try this: http://so.tudou.com/psearch/大学生同居的事儿 I download flvs at http://www.flvxz.com/ Quote
flameproof Posted July 26, 2009 at 04:39 AM Author Report Posted July 26, 2009 at 04:39 AM SM Player can play the emule RMVB files in the correct 1024 x 576 format in excellent quality - but only when I remove the chinese characters from the file name. Well, that's ok. http://downloads.sourceforge.net/smplayer/smplayer_0.6.7_setup.exe PS: I d/l a youku video in one go. Tudou is downloads well too, but is the same small resolution. That's ok if you watch them on your iPod, but too poor on the 46" HD-TV Quote
roddy Posted July 26, 2009 at 04:45 AM Report Posted July 26, 2009 at 04:45 AM (edited) I figured as this is quite short it might be suitable for lower levels, so I knocked up a transcript in case it's of any use. Attached, could be some errors, didn't check. The show was a nice idea and it's kind of refreshing to see something so amateur. But apart from the novelty of a few crude jokes and a bit of bad language, it's not actually that great. The plot is remarkably simple, the language generally is straightforward although there are bits of slang that might trip people up I guess. Some language that might be useful: 蹭干净 cèng gānjìng – wipe clean 输光 shū guāng – to lose everything, to be cleaned out 导员 dǎo yuán – some kind of tutor, teacher 搁 gē – to put 呗 bei – like 吧, but with a sense of ‘this is obvious, why am I needing to tell you?’ 侵略者 qīnlüèzhě - invaders 整人 zhěngrén – to sort someone out, teach someone a lesson 撤 chè – take away, withdraw 升50级 shēng50jí – World of Warcraft or other game reference – reach Level 50 洁癖 jiépǐ – obsessive cleanliness 噪音轰炸 zàoyīn hōngzhà – ‘noise bombing’ 音箱 yīnxiāng - speakers 插足 chāzú – get involved in, insert 众爱卿 zhòng àiqīng – my massed subjects 稍安勿躁 shāo ān wù zào – calm down a little, do not be rash. He’s getting faux classical here 埋地雷 mái dìléi – plant mines 损人利己 sǔnrénlìjǐ – harm others for your own benefit 偶像 ǒuxiàng - idol 太拽了 tài zhuāi le - not sure how to translate 拽 here, anyone? 非主流 fēi zhǔliú – non-mainstream, alternative. daxueshengtongju1.txt Edited July 26, 2009 at 05:21 AM by roddy Quote
leeyah Posted July 26, 2009 at 07:11 AM Report Posted July 26, 2009 at 07:11 AM Useful stuff, Roddy. Thank you. 太拽了 tài zhuāi le - not sure how to translate 拽 here, anyone? I haven't seen this word before either. It seems to be a dialect word. Synonyms: 嚣张,牛气,目中无人, 牛b ... Arrogant, self-important, conceited, ... ? Or perhaps there's some appropriate English slang for it ? http://zhidao.baidu.com/question/24966930.html http://www.chinabaike.com/dir/gjcd/gjhycd/1184403.html http://iask.sina.com.cn/b/2654488.html Quote
msittig Posted July 30, 2009 at 03:58 PM Report Posted July 30, 2009 at 03:58 PM 众爱卿 zhòng àiqīng – my massed subjects I've been googling this for 10 minutes and all I can come up with is that “众爱卿平身,朕既兴复大燕,身登大宝,人人皆有封赏。” is a quote from a 金庸 wuxia novel. Could you explain? EDIT: OK never mind, it makes sense after seeing this: 唐玄宗坐在大殿之上,下面站着文武百官。唐玄宗:众爱卿,昨夜,潼关告急,我已派李福德率监牧小儿前去营救了,一夜也没见平安烽火,可见现在潼关危急,众爱卿有何退敌良策? Quote
