Sp0cK Posted July 25, 2009 at 04:58 AM Report Posted July 25, 2009 at 04:58 AM By the looks of it I'll start a mandarin course/study from the 1st september 2009. I'm familiar with the Guanxi Uni in Nanning and am quite keen to startoff down there. The University doesn't know I'm studying with them until I arrive.... knowing this Uni they don't mind late drop ins as long as student fees are paid for... Now, I am wondering if it is possible to walk in China with a Tourist Visa and simply rock up at this university and do the medical checks / student visa thing in Nanning itself? Quote
dodgygoods2000 Posted July 25, 2009 at 06:58 PM Report Posted July 25, 2009 at 06:58 PM Hi Spock, I am going to the Guangxi University for Nationalities at end of August. I was in Nanning a few months back and they said I would have to get a tourist visa first then arrive at the uni to get my study visa. They said it wouldn't be a problem if I arrived last week of august and did the medical and paid the fees. They would sort if out for me. Which uni are u going to? And are u staying on campus? Because I asked about prices and it seemed like alot of money to stay on campus, so I was thinking of staying in a hotel while getting some people I know in Nanning to find out about rental prices in the area as I reckon its cheaper. Cheers, Stu Quote
Sp0cK Posted July 26, 2009 at 03:22 AM Author Report Posted July 26, 2009 at 03:22 AM (edited) yeh apparently they put prices up for foreigners at the campus - so I know a place to stay its in a huge flat building next to the uni, altho I pay like 200 euros a month for that. But its nice! Guess I have to sort out cheaper prices once I'm there. But ok good to hear I can walk in with a tourist visa. I know the uni price for half a year study is about 600 euro. It's huuuge so first thing i'll buy is a bicycle to get around with Edited July 26, 2009 at 08:21 AM by Sp0cK Quote

So I'm assuming you are referring to two different people. The only question that leaves is are both current? Quote
dodgygoods2000 Posted July 26, 2009 at 12:54 PM Report Posted July 26, 2009 at 12:54 PM Hi The one I am going to is pretty small and in the north west of Nanning and thats the Guangxi University for Nationalities. So maybe you are going to a different one How comes you decided on Nanning? And does anyone know how to see chinese text on google chrome? All I see are boxes. Cheers, Stu Quote
Sp0cK Posted July 27, 2009 at 02:07 PM Author Report Posted July 27, 2009 at 02:07 PM dodygoods; You should install the chinese characters within windows in order to see them in your browser - Theres language settings in chrome as well :-) I was passing through Nanning the start of this year and visited a friend who was studying there and so it happen I attended a class to see what it's like... There's not a lot to see or do in Nanning, tho I enjoyed being in and around the uni campus. Besides that the weather is nice and warm down there :-) Near the campus there's a cool little pub where basically all the teachers/students go for a beer. Tho there's a relatively small group of westerners there, you'll notice everybody knows everybody sorta thing.. I suppose it's the same campus we're talking about. I'll be there end of august as well so without a doubt we'll meet... Quote
