isela Posted July 28, 2009 at 02:40 AM Report Posted July 28, 2009 at 02:40 AM Hi, I'm from Tianjin! And welcome to our city! Pertaining your question, I know that Nankai University has a Chinese program and supposedly is the best in the city. And you can probably check out this forum to join a community with people having similar background as yours: http://www.tianjinexpats.com/ I hope that you'll like it here! Quote
NateM Posted September 8, 2009 at 09:36 AM Report Posted September 8, 2009 at 09:36 AM Welcome to Tianjin. I'm not sure what you mean by "Tianjin Language Institute", exactly. There is the Foreign Language University, many private language schools, and the other big universities, (Nankai, Tianjin University, Tianjin Normal University, etc), generally have pretty decent language programs. There's a list of some of the bigger schools here: http://www.tianjinexpats.com/index.php/Business-Directory/Studying/Studying-In-Tianjin/Places-To-Study-Chinese.html I also think the school listed here is pretty good: http://www.studyabroaddirectory.com/listingsp3.cfm/listing/54413 I went there for a year, and although it the teacher's can sometimes be annoying with their "Westerners are like this because b.s. b.s. b.s.", you can learn quite a bit, and tuition is cheap for the amount of instruction you receive. (Disclaimer: My wife works for the school. If people think that shouldn't be posted here, let me know and I'll take it out) Quote

This provides transparency for readers and allows them to make up their own mind whether or not you have an agenda. Failure to do so may result in mockery when we find out. Quote
XiaoXi Posted September 13, 2009 at 04:21 AM Report Posted September 13, 2009 at 04:21 AM I'm in TianJin at the moment and its amazing how slowly the Tianjinexpats.com website loads. Not exactly useful for umm...Tianjin Expats. Quote
NateM Posted September 18, 2009 at 03:45 AM Report Posted September 18, 2009 at 03:45 AM I just loaded it. Front page was 17 seconds, with the cache emptied. Not lightning speeds, but not ridiculously slow. The Beijinger's site was 14 seconds. Shanghai Expat was 10. Quote
XiaoXi Posted September 19, 2009 at 10:20 AM Report Posted September 19, 2009 at 10:20 AM I tried it at another house and it was a bit faster. Its probably not hosted in China. Quote
