renzhe Posted July 28, 2009 at 01:07 PM Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 at 01:07 PM Yes, works now. I've attached the three complete transcripts to the first post. Let me know as more transcripts become available. Quote
atitarev Posted July 28, 2009 at 01:15 PM Report Posted July 28, 2009 at 01:15 PM I opened it OK with Wenlin before the fix. It's in Unicode. You can also try MS Word. Quote
zhen_shuai Posted July 29, 2009 at 12:15 AM Report Posted July 29, 2009 at 12:15 AM okay, I updated my list to show that the transcript for episode 2 is complete. who wants episode 3? Quote
atitarev Posted July 29, 2009 at 01:43 AM Report Posted July 29, 2009 at 01:43 AM I do I will let you know if I find time and you need some help but I am very slow. Quote
renzhe Posted July 29, 2009 at 08:50 AM Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 at 08:50 AM I can take over one episode, too. I was thinking about the third one, and hoping to get it done one of these days. If atitarev wants that one, should I take the 5th? Quote
atitarev Posted July 29, 2009 at 12:41 PM Report Posted July 29, 2009 at 12:41 PM Unfortunately I am too busy at the moment. I won't make empty promises now. I can study during long train rides but transcribing the series might be difficult. Feel free to take #4. Quote
zhen_shuai Posted July 29, 2009 at 08:17 PM Report Posted July 29, 2009 at 08:17 PM Renzhe - put your name on episode 3 I will do my best to finish episode 4 by this weekend. Who wants episode 5? We also need people to QC the ones that are already done. Man. If we finish this we're going to have one hell of a resource available. Quote
renzhe Posted July 30, 2009 at 12:26 AM Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 at 12:26 AM OK, I'm two thirds through the third episode. I'll post the transcript tomorrow. Quote
Guest realmayo Posted July 30, 2009 at 01:05 AM Report Posted July 30, 2009 at 01:05 AM Guys, I'm going to opt out of any particularly structured approach to this, I find transcribing these episodes a good way for me to learn, but I'll do it at my own pace. However I'm more than happy to share any transcripts that I do, and because I'm not going to transcribe them all, if I'm deciding whether to do, say, episode 10 or 11, and see on the list that episode 11 is free, of course I'll choose episode 11, and let you know. But don't rely on me! Quote
renzhe Posted July 30, 2009 at 01:07 AM Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 at 01:07 AM I don't think I'll do much transcribing, but I thought that if several people pitch in with an episode each, we can fill up the first 6-7, and that's already great help for anyone deciding to watch from the beginning. Definitely don't feel pressured to do anything, we're all doing this as a studying exercise after all. Quote
renzhe Posted July 30, 2009 at 07:55 PM Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 at 07:55 PM Anyway, I've finished the third episode. I've added it to the first post of the 奋斗 thread if anyone's interested. Quote
zhen_shuai Posted July 31, 2009 at 09:30 PM Report Posted July 31, 2009 at 09:30 PM Definitely don't feel pressured to do anything, we're all doing this as a studying exercise after all. Agreed. On the other hand, as long as we are transcribing them we might as well share what we get done! Quote
roddy Posted August 1, 2009 at 09:21 AM Report Posted August 1, 2009 at 09:21 AM Something else that might be useful and help you follow the show, but a lot less time consuming than actual transcription, would be to translate the Episode guide from Sina. Quote
Guest realmayo Posted August 1, 2009 at 09:37 AM Report Posted August 1, 2009 at 09:37 AM Ah, that might be very good to read before watching each episode (and before the Renzhe summary!) .... Also online is the text of the series in novel format, I thought it might be a real help doing the transcribing, but the differences in the dialogue, though very subtle, were too many to make doing it this way much use. Just found the link again: http://book.dt.gov.cn/book_content.asp?id=1&btypeid=73. Quote
zhen_shuai Posted August 2, 2009 at 02:50 AM Report Posted August 2, 2009 at 02:50 AM Whoa. There's a novel version? Which came first? One thing that's been bugging me the whole series is how every pronounces 杨晓芸's name. For the longest time I thought it was Yang2 Yao3yun2, which seemed possible since 晓 has the same component as 烧. But then I go to type it up and I found out it's Yang2 Xiao3yun2! It turns out that this is a feature of 北京话: ...in fast speech, initial consonants go through lenition if they are in an unstressed syllable: pinyin zh ch sh /tʂ tʂʰ ʂ/ become r /ɻ/, so 不知道 bùzhīdào "don't know" can sound like bùrīdào (stress is on the first and third syllables); j q x /tɕ tɕʰ ɕ/ become y /j/, so 赶紧去 gǎnjǐnqù "go quickly" can sound like gǎnyǐnqù; pinyin b d g /p t k/ go through voicing to become [b d g]; similar changes also occur on other consonants. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beijing_dialect Cool, huh? atitarev Posted August 2, 2009 at 08:18 PM Report Posted August 2, 2009 at 08:18 PM One thing that's been bugging me the whole serie s is how every pronounces 杨晓芸's name. For the longest time I thought it was Yang2 Yao3yun2, which seemed possible since 晓 has the same component as 烧 Is 晓 ever pronounced as yǎo? From ABC: 晓[曉] xiǎo b.f. ①dawn; daybreak (拂晓 fúxiǎo) ②know (晓得 xiǎodé) ③tell (报晓 bàoxiǎo) Quote
zhen_shuai Posted August 2, 2009 at 11:05 PM Report Posted August 2, 2009 at 11:05 PM ...in fast speech, initial consonants go through lenition if they are in an unstressed syllable...j q x /tɕ tɕʰ ɕ/ become y /j/ So...yes. But I guess technically they are saying Yang2 Yiao3yun2. Dictionaries don't usually include dialect pronunciations, or this case, consonant mutation. Quote
atitarev Posted August 2, 2009 at 11:20 PM Report Posted August 2, 2009 at 11:20 PM My point is, that this (晓 pronounced as xiǎo) is not a feature of 北京话 but of 普通话. It's irrelevant to this discussion, of course. Quote

赫杰 Posted August 4, 2009 at 05:50 AM Report Posted August 4, 2009 at 05:50 AM edit: just found this thread: http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/21967-the-transcribing-and-subtitle-thread ...sorry! Hello all, I'm searching the net for chinese drama subtitles, having a little trouble finding them. For instance, looking for subtitles to the popular chinese drama 《奋斗》. I know the subtitles are generally included in the video, but I'm looking for the separate subtitle file itself, like an .srt or something similar. Thanks for any help! HJ Quote
