呆(dāi) and 待 (dāi） both meaning "to stay"

According to one of the Chinese word (not character) corpora I downloaded (I'll check for the link.), 待 is ranked 1362 and 呆 is ranked 1462, which if you follow Zipf's law is a really minute difference, imperceptible to human speakers.

It looks like 呆 is used less often to mean 待 in Taiwan. From search results, it looks like 待 is about four times as common. It's hard to tell which sense people are using 呆 in. For example, written as「呆」在家好, it's easy to see that the person means "staying at home doing nothing", not just "staying at home", but if the quotes aren't included, it's not so clear.

If you look at the Taiwan's MOE dictionary, the 待 sense of 呆 is not listed.
