Hunininki Posted August 1, 2009 at 03:32 PM Report Posted August 1, 2009 at 03:32 PM Hihihi. I'm a high school student from Australia and I'm going to be in Beijing with a friend in late September/early October. I haven't found accommodation yet ( ! ) and I'm looking into homestaying. My friend is an overseas Chinese and her familly lives in a 胡同 in Xi Cheng district. I would be interested in something around there but I don't think that homestay programs offer such short stays. Does anyone know what I could do? Since I'm a student, it'd be hard to stay in a hotel for two weeks. I can speak Mandarin reasonably okay so language is not a problem. Thankyou. Quote

shivasprogeny Posted August 1, 2009 at 10:40 PM Report Posted August 1, 2009 at 10:40 PM Would you consider a youth hostel? They are a great value, you could probably get a private room for 130RMB/night or a dorm room for 50-80 RMB/night. There are dozens of them throughout the city, you shouldn't have trouble finding one close to your friend. Quote
sthubbar Posted August 2, 2009 at 03:39 AM Report Posted August 2, 2009 at 03:39 AM www.lotusstudy.com does offer short term home stay. I stayed with a host family for 2 weeks in 2005 using Lotus Study and it was great. Quote
Hunininki Posted August 2, 2009 at 05:36 AM Author Report Posted August 2, 2009 at 05:36 AM My parents have decided that my teachers must find a homestay for me; apparently I need a responsible adult with me. When I finish school, however, I'll definitely try couchsurfing/hostels. Quote
