confucius Posted July 28, 2004 at 11:24 PM Report Posted July 28, 2004 at 11:24 PM Liu Wei is said to be getting an invitation to try out with the Sacramento Kings after the Olympics. If he makes the team then he would be the first Chinese guard in the NBA. So far all three Chinese NBA players have been tall centers, so this is very encouraging for China's youth to see somebody much less than seven feet get a chance to play in the NBA. However I don't think he will get much playing time behind Mike Bibby unless the Kings trade Bobby Jackson. Quote
TSkillet Posted August 4, 2004 at 02:21 PM Report Posted August 4, 2004 at 02:21 PM Liu Wei is also Yao Ming's best friend. Having seen him play a lot - he's not good enough to play in the NBA. Great shooter, terrible at almost everything else (well at least by NBA standards). Quote
confucius Posted August 4, 2004 at 08:58 PM Author Report Posted August 4, 2004 at 08:58 PM If there's room in the NBA for Kyle Korver then I don't see why Liu Wei can't make it as a shooting specialist for some NBA squad. He won't be a starter, that's for sure, but I can envision him coming off the bench for a struggling team like the Atlanta Hawks. The Heat re-signed Wang Zhi Zhi and he's a bench player as well. TSkillet Posted August 4, 2004 at 09:33 PM Report Posted August 4, 2004 at 09:33 PM The guy who really should have gotten a chance was Hu Weidong. But for reasons of politics and injury, Da Zhi was the first Chinese player in the NBA. Hu Weidong could've made it - and probably played some bench minutes too. Liu Wei doesn't have Kyle Korver's height - and with all the extra stuff needed (translator) - it's probably not worth it. Quote
