onebir Posted August 6, 2009 at 01:47 AM Report Posted August 6, 2009 at 01:47 AM (Apologies if this is in the wrong place - I vaguely remember a chinese computing subforum, but wasn't been able to find it...) A friend of mine brought a mac notebook to china (fairly new) & I tried to help him connect it to the internet. After going through the apparently relevant dialogs (cable and DSL modem) this didn't work. Then it did, briefly, and stopped working. Another friend brought over a windows laptop & connected without problems. So the ISP doesn't seem to be the problem Has anyone experienced similar problems getting online with a mac here &/ have any ideas how to solve it? (If the techy details are significant let me know & I'll find them out...) Quote
phyrex Posted August 6, 2009 at 02:07 AM Report Posted August 6, 2009 at 02:07 AM With a general 'doesn't work' nobody will ever be able to help you, sorry. You need to provide a lot more info before people are even able to narrow it down more to see where the problem *could* be. Best wishes from Beijing, written on a MacBook. Quote
muyongshi Posted August 6, 2009 at 05:18 AM Report Posted August 6, 2009 at 05:18 AM Provide us with the relevant connection type {cable modem lends me to think that it is a PPoE}. In which case go under the system preferences, network, click on whatever connection he is using and then click on PPoE and enter all relevant info. I've never had an issue. But try and provide more detail! Quote
