skylee Posted August 15, 2009 at 10:53 AM Report Posted August 15, 2009 at 10:53 AM It is 誠. It means honesty / sincerity. It is in the traditional form (i.e. not simplified Chinese), and it does not look ugly at all (PS - though it looks a bit too large for the arm). Quote

Hofmann Posted August 15, 2009 at 06:17 PM Report Posted August 15, 2009 at 06:17 PM It's written correctly by most people's standards. It's written incorrectly by the standards I would set for something inked in one's skin. Quote
New Members bitumenboy Posted August 15, 2009 at 11:11 PM Author New Members Report Posted August 15, 2009 at 11:11 PM what do you mean it is written incorrectly for standards that you would ink in someone's skin is there any other possible hidden message in it my girlfriend says it means integreity. muyongshi Posted August 16, 2009 at 06:53 AM Report Posted August 16, 2009 at 06:53 AM What he means is that it is not "nice" looking. It is just kind of a semi-standard like font. He would like a more cursive, artsy look to it. Quote
Hofmann Posted August 17, 2009 at 12:07 AM Report Posted August 17, 2009 at 12:07 AM You misunderstood me, but I don't blame you. I mean that if something will be inked in someone's skin, it has to be written very well. It can be in 篆書、隸書、草書、行書、楷書, I don't really care, but whatever it is, it has to be written well. By the way, there is no artsy writing that is good. Study the way of writing (書法) with a good teacher and you'll understand. Otherwise, just ignore me. Quote
muyongshi Posted August 17, 2009 at 12:59 AM Report Posted August 17, 2009 at 12:59 AM Study the way of writing (書法) with a good teacher and you'll understand. If this was directed at me, I have studied 书法 and I guess probably what is happening here is a difference in our understanding of "artsy". When I said that, I was solely thinking of calligraphy and I phrased it this way so the OP would have a bit more of an understanding that it wouldn't be "block" lettering in the sense but something that is.... nice looking, artsy, calligraphy, or the like.
