Sam07 Posted August 20, 2009 at 09:09 AM Report Posted August 20, 2009 at 09:09 AM Hello Everyone! I am a scholarship student ( full scholarship) from Paris and I want to be chinese teacher, my first choice was BNU and I got my seconde choice BLCU, but I've been told that BNU was the best university for training futur teachers, that's why I really need to go to this university. Is someone on this forum who got a scholarship and changed school? Thanks! Quote
BrandeX Posted August 20, 2009 at 12:25 PM Report Posted August 20, 2009 at 12:25 PM China's "normal" universities teach Chinese people to be teachers. You would be in the foreigners "learn Chinese" program no matter what school you were attending. I am not sure it would ultimately make much difference only for that one reason. Also, is a Chinese degree accepted as a teaching qualification in Paris? Just curious. Quote
Sam07 Posted August 20, 2009 at 03:26 PM Author Report Posted August 20, 2009 at 03:26 PM Thank you for your answer, but I do want to go to BNU, There are too much foreigners at BLCU, I think it could be a major problem when you study such a difficult language as Chinese. But The main question remains: possible or not? Quote
marco-polo Posted August 20, 2009 at 04:20 PM Report Posted August 20, 2009 at 04:20 PM Hi Sam07 - I'm just a new scholarship student like yourself, but I think I can give you a reasonably informed opinion. My experience with the CSC scholarship process is that it's not at all flexible - if you're lucky enough to be offered a scholarship, it's a "take it or leave it" proposition. Particularly if you ranked BNU ahead of BLCU on your application, I don't see much hope of getting them to switch you at this point. I know a couple of people who studied at BLCU and had good things to say about it as a place to study Chinese. For Westerners, it seems to be a better fit than BNU (which has something to do with why it's full of foreigners). As long as you take the classes seriously and don't spend all your time partying with other Europeans, it seems to be a great place to study. I was advised that BNU is not a great place to start studying Chinese, but maybe a good place to go as an advanced student. Also, I agree with BrandeX - assuming that you're coming to take language classes, the fact that BNU is a teachers' college for Chinese students shouldn't have much bearing on your future plan of becoming a Chinese teacher. If you're planning to teach in Europe, you'll probably need to get a BA in Chinese Language and Literature and possibly a qualification in teaching. You'll have an easier time getting your credentials recognized if they come from Western universities. Quote
Sam07 Posted August 20, 2009 at 05:07 PM Author Report Posted August 20, 2009 at 05:07 PM Hi Marco-Polo, I agree with you and I am very gratefull about getting a scholarship, but as you say I am an advanced student, I already have my diploma (硕士) with excellent results that's why I wanted to go to BNU...
