kangzhou Posted August 25, 2009 at 12:43 AM Report Posted August 25, 2009 at 12:43 AM The English translation of this book was just written up in today's NYTimes. It's not really that new (2003), but guess the translation and book deal took a while. Has anyone here read or perused the original? Thanks! Quote
wushijiao Posted August 25, 2009 at 02:49 AM Report Posted August 25, 2009 at 02:49 AM I saw this as well in the NYT today and was wondering the same thing. I can't say that I know anything about it. The original seems to be here. Quote
zhwj Posted August 25, 2009 at 03:39 AM Report Posted August 25, 2009 at 03:39 AM His stuff is excellent. 2007's Dingxi Orphanage was another powerful collection. For some cognitive dissonance after reading the NYTimes review, chock full of death and cruelty (and Yang's own mournful author photo), check out the cover of the translation. Quote
gato Posted August 25, 2009 at 04:19 AM Report Posted August 25, 2009 at 04:19 AM check out the cover of the translation That cover is intended to attract female readers, I think. Quote
kangzhou Posted August 26, 2009 at 12:34 AM Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 at 12:34 AM Thanks for the link - and thoughts on the author's work! Don't have a lot of time (the Short Story of the Month is very appealing...) but really nice to be able to check this out online. Quote
