PhilipLean Posted September 2, 2009 at 06:03 AM Report Share Posted September 2, 2009 at 06:03 AM Is there a program that will enable me to highlight (select) text and right click and select "add to flash card list" ? I would prefer something that works in Word documents and web pages. I have seen several good programs provide pop up translations when text is selected but it seems to take many steps to get the original word and the translation into a document. I have explored several flash card programs bu so far I have not found that function. It would be really neat if such a thing had the option of doing a lookup at the time or later to produce a fully formed flashcard list. gato Posted September 2, 2009 at 06:32 AM Report Share Posted September 2, 2009 at 06:32 AM Chinese Perapera-kun, the Firefox plugin, can save the words you look into a textfile, which you can then feed into a flashcard program. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3349 Chinese Perapera-kun: Chinese Popup Translator Pleco also has a similar function. http://www.pleco.com/screenshots.html Pleco
PhilipLean Posted September 2, 2009 at 08:43 AM Author Report Share Posted September 2, 2009 at 08:43 AM Thanks, I have just downloaded Firefox 3.0 to use with Perapera-kun. It does not run my usual Firefox 3.5. I have not tried Pleco on a PDA, I did look at the page you pointed to, I will find out more. I think this is on the way to a solution. gato Posted September 2, 2009 at 08:50 AM Report Share Posted September 2, 2009 at 08:50 AM You can install the "Nightly Tester Tools" Firefox plugin to overcome the incompatibility problem. Once the Tester Tools plugin in installed, right click on Perapera-kun to force the install. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6543 Nightly Tester Tools

gato Posted September 2, 2009 at 01:42 PM Report Share Posted September 2, 2009 at 01:42 PM But, I have set the save file in the menu, so far no file is appearing. Unfortunately, you have to manually enter the directory and file name where the lookups are saved. Assuming that you are using Windows, you could try C:Documents and Settings[YOUR USERNAME UNDER WINDOWS]DesktopVocabList.txt Make sure the encoding type is set as UTF-8. Then whenever you want to save a word and its definition while doing a lookup, just press the "s" key.
PhilipLean Posted September 2, 2009 at 02:11 PM Author Report Share Posted September 2, 2009 at 02:11 PM Great, now it works, I had everything but the file name. What is the best separator colon comma tab ?
gato Posted September 2, 2009 at 02:15 PM Report Share Posted September 2, 2009 at 02:15 PM I use Tab because that's what Pleco recognizes. Commas is probably fine, too. You can load a comma-separated value (CSV) file into Excel for further processing, for example. CSV and tab-separated files are also recognized by flashcard programs like jMemorize.
