I have just started to do the translation for a English tutorial website, having those text translated from English to Putunghwa (eg users' instruction, policy...etc). It's purely a home-based part-time job.

I am being asked about the pricing of my work done. Can anyone give me some idea on pricing. The website is originating in US and I am doing the translation in HongKong.

So you're translating from English to Mandarin, and the company that pays is American. I think you should try to ask for an international rate. Translation is very inexpensive on the Chinese market, which I am familiar with. An international rate could be around 200 US dollars per thousand words of the source language, but it seems that the rate has been declining in the past few years. I guess you could try asking people at www.proz.com, the largest freelance translator/interpreter site of the world. Just browse job posts at that site, and you may find that this market is getting pretty international, and reward also flattens out.
