megadubitably Posted September 4, 2009 at 05:44 PM Report Posted September 4, 2009 at 05:44 PM So... I'm trying to get to Xi'an (I'm studying there this semester... got my visa and everything). I have a plane ticket that gets me to Shanghai this Tuesday at 7pm. But I do not have a ticket from Shanghai to Xi'an yet. I was told by my contact there that it is quite easy to get a ticket to Xi'an once I pick up my luggage. But today I was told that this is insane. Anyone know the Shanghai Pu Dong airport well? I am going by myself and do not speak enough Chinese to get around. I was going to bring two big suitcases, but now I will probably only bring one so it is easier to move around. Quote
fanglu Posted September 5, 2009 at 05:28 AM Report Posted September 5, 2009 at 05:28 AM You can buy tickets online. Eg http://www.elong.net/ I have no idea about buying tickets at the airport. Quote
XiaoBin Posted September 5, 2009 at 08:53 AM Report Posted September 5, 2009 at 08:53 AM Yep elong has good domestic flight, you can print out an e-ticket and check in. Ppl in Shanghai regularly speak more english then anywhere else in China. You should check how much luggage you can take with you, whatever flight you take. Domestic flight usually don't allow you to take alot of luggage. Quote
anonymoose Posted September 5, 2009 at 09:32 AM Report Posted September 5, 2009 at 09:32 AM Buying a ticket at the airport is no problem. The only problem you might have is that there are no flights available at that time of night. I just checked on the net for the date you're arriving and if you're lucky, you might be able to make the last flight at 21:50 which is a China Eastern Airlines flight (MU2158). Also, currently it is showing up with a 48% discount which is pretty good, although this can change on a day-to-day basis. There are also a couple of flights earlier at 20:20 (China Eastern) and 20:30 (Shanghai Airlines) but I don't think you'll be able to make those in time. Also, be aware that there are two terminals at Pudong. Going from on to the other involves catching a (free) bus, and you should allow sufficient time for this if you need to change terminals. Quote
megadubitably Posted September 12, 2009 at 02:17 AM Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 at 02:17 AM I managed to catch the mu2158 with no trouble. To get from terminal two to terminal one (which I had to do) was quite easy, I just walked through the inside connector. I had two extra heavy bags, but that was no problem. I made it! Thanks for your help everyone. Quote
