dajaphonics Posted September 5, 2009 at 06:52 AM Report Posted September 5, 2009 at 06:52 AM I recommend you to never eat there. I had some Sushi Express in Taiwan last year, and actually enjoyed it for what it is, relatively cheap McDonald's of sushi. I tried their sushi at Wudaokou last night and am regretting it today. I should've known by the look of the sushi to resist my urge. Perhaps it was just too late to be continuously making new sushi. Sometimes at those fast food sushi restaurants, you get sushi that's been rotating on the conveyor belt for far too long. Lesson learned. Quote

flippant Posted September 13, 2009 at 01:15 PM Report Posted September 13, 2009 at 01:15 PM If you're in 五道口 and pining for Sushi, there's a great Japanese place called 一心 (Isshin?) tucked behind the Tous Les Jour café. I rate their salmon quite highly. The makis pretty much all have too much mayonnaise on them, but the nigiri is decent, as is the sashimi (again, salmon rules the roost). Beware though: they do fancy putting a lot of wasabi between the fish and rice (to the point of stinging your nose something fierce), but that can be averted by asking nicely. The service isn't too good, but the food is good enough for me to come back a lot. Throughout September, they have a buy-one-get-one-free (买一送一) deal going from 17 o'clock and onwards, making it cheap as well Quote
Purple Chimp Posted September 13, 2009 at 01:31 PM Report Posted September 13, 2009 at 01:31 PM ^ Corr! I dig sushi and at affordable prices? YUM! Wasabi is the sauce of kings! Quote
imron Posted September 13, 2009 at 02:06 PM Report Posted September 13, 2009 at 02:06 PM Wasabi is the sauce of kings! According to a Japanese friend I was speaking to once, you're supposed to have it with Sushi whether you like it or not as it kills the bacteria that causes the problems experienced by the OP. Quote
flippant Posted September 13, 2009 at 02:13 PM Report Posted September 13, 2009 at 02:13 PM I put wasabi in my soy sauce, quite a bit in fact. What I don't like is the powerful and immediate hit of a big blob of wasabi, obliterating the subtlety of the fish (and making my eyes run and my forehead sweaty). Quote
dajaphonics Posted September 16, 2009 at 01:50 AM Author Report Posted September 16, 2009 at 01:50 AM I'll definitely look for that place. I found another one closer to where I'm living now just a little east of BCLU next to the supermarket. It is also very delicious and have some kind of deal where certain rolls are about 13 yuan. It's not a bad deal. For two it cost us about 50 yuan going with the cheaper options. Quote
