Tobias Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:10 PM Report Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:10 PM Hello! I am not quite clear about the Meaning of 国际联盟 in the following sentence: 我们支持并将继续支持国际联盟在阿富汗进行反恐行动的努力。 As it refers to the War on Terror in Afghanistan, I think it may be translated as ISAF. The only thing i found is the "League of Nations" with seems to be rather inappropriate. Or should it just be read as "international alliance"? Thanks alot for any help in advance! Quote
muyongshi Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:28 PM Report Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:28 PM My thought is that it may be a typo and should be 联合国. Quote
Tobias Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:42 PM Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:42 PM It is from the only official document i could find about the 上海合作组织成员国元首宣言 of 2005, at http://www.sectsco.org/CN/show.asp?id=169 close to the middle-end section of §3 so i would be surprise if it is a typing error. Maybe the whole text under the above mentioned link does help to find any good translation? thanks! Quote
roddy Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:45 PM Report Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:45 PM International coalition, in the context of Afghanistan, although I suspect in English it's usually just 'coalition'. NATO, plus the ISAF, plus the Afghan government forces. Quote
echo_zkl Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:47 PM Report Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:47 PM Seems League of Nations is the official English name of 国际联盟, check out the following website: http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%9B%BD%E9%99%85%E8%81%94%E7%9B%9F Quote
muyongshi Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:48 PM Report Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:48 PM I think Roddy's got it nailed. Just referring to coalition. Quote
Tobias Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:58 PM Author Report Posted September 5, 2009 at 01:58 PM ok, thanks for the answers! I will stick to "international coalition" in my translation. (adding a little footnote) P.S.: It has been over a year since my last visit to this forum and i am still amazed at the speed of answering and helping out here ;) Quote
