Music Stores in Beijing

Any suggestions for good music shops? Particularly I'm looking for a weighted key portable piano and an acoustic guitar. Also if you know of anyone who gives lessons for piano I would be interested.

There's a lot of music shops on Gulou Dong Dajie (鼓楼东大街)...but you can probably find msuic stores pretty much all around.

Thanks for that tip. However, if anyone else needs a cheap guitar or er hu go down to Xinjiekou south. It seems to be a centralized music store area of Beijing.

are acoustic guitars cheap in china? im trying to weigh up the options of either paying extra to bring my beloved one with me or just buy a cheap one and hope my "amazing" skills make a cheap one sounds ok lol

The cheapest ones probably will be around 100 kuai (I'm guessing here - I bought one for 300 once and that was not the cheapest). Obviously you get what you pay for, so they're barely worth the wood they're made of; if you want something usable, you should probably look at 500 kuai and above.

The two areas mentioned above - Xinjiekou and Gulou, as well as Hepingmen in the South, each have clusters of shops that make browsing easy.

aaah, okays then, in terms of chiese the cheapest I could by here in england was about 800, so maybe a 500 one would do me just fine when i move out then

I recommend Xinjiekou Nan too. Got a pretty nice classical one for 400.
