Living in Jinhua/Studying at Zheshida

Hi everyone,

So as a few people might know I've taken a CSC Scholarship offered to me for Zhejiang Normal University in Jinhua, rather than my preference of ZheDa in Hangzhou (long story). My question now is, does anyone know ANYTHING about Jinhua? Information seems to be very scattered. I'm not too fussed since I'm an hour by train from Hangzhou, two from Shanghai and my boyfriend is flying me up to Beijing to see him one weekend a month, so I'm not totally cut off from the wider world, but I'd still like to know a little about where I'm going.

Has anyone been there, or been to Zheshida? Please let me know your thoughts!

Many thanks,

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I was studying in Zheda for a few months til August. I got the chance to visit Jinhua and few villages around during my stay in China but can't can't really say many things about.

Think it's a typical small-city in China built in a valley with wide streets, some fashion buildings, markets and so on but as far as I remember the city looks industrial. A meeting point for all the business from countryside.

There are some places around that you can visit as Wuyi (nice mountains and awesome hot springs) and also Yiwu, well known business city.

Really a pity you cannot apply for Zheda and live in Hangzhou. Most beautiful city I have seen before, best time spent ever!

I did actually apply for ZheDa--however, I'm finishing off my Honours here and I can't start until March. As a result, all the scholarships for ZheDa went to people who could start in September like normal and I got shunted off to ZheShiDa. =P

I was absolutely heartbroken when I found out; Hangzhou has been my dream since I started studying Chinese. But I'm trying to make the best of it. The ZheShiDa campus looks pretty nice from photos (not that I necessarily trust them) and apparently although I lose my scholarship if I don't take up the offer at Jinhua, once I'm actually there I can apply to transfer.

The one seriously positive thing I can think of is that there's nothing out in the city to distract me, I'll spend more time on campus practicing my Chinese!

Well, as a teacher-training university, Zheshida is an Old school in Zhejiang province.(firstly founded in1956 in Hangzhou and move to Jinhua in1965)

Beautiful campus, nice natural scenery. It might be a good place for studying.

But as a foreigner it's not a good idea to stay there for too long, cause that would be very lonely.(I guess, for such a small city) The best choice is transfering to Zheda(Zhejiang university). As one of the best universities in China, Zheda will never be disappoint you for its nice view of campus (better than Zheshida)and academia. And most important is: it's in Hangzhou.:D

Well you have probably heard this a million times by now, but Jinhua ham is extremely famous. Saying you live in Jinhua is pretty much the same as saying you live in Prosciuttoville.
