PhilipLean Posted September 8, 2009 at 05:37 PM Report Posted September 8, 2009 at 05:37 PM I watched part of this film on TV (SBS in Australia) tonight and was intrigued by some of the music. I tracked down a description - "Music ranges from great Chinese swing tunes of the era to Jorg Lemberg's symphonic score" - from the review in the Hollywood Reporter Does anyone know more about the swing music of this period in China ? And in particular the Chinese songs from the film Purple Butterfly. I have found this piece by Bai Kwong - described as "one of the preeminent divas of Shanghai in the 1930s", 如果沒有你 白光 Bai Kwong http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MR_XP5yr0pE&feature=related Apart from liking the music and songs, they are mostly sung slowly. Great for learning the language. Quote

PhilipLean Posted September 11, 2009 at 02:45 PM Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 at 02:45 PM Thanks for the suggestions, I think I have found the right links to the people you mentioned. Terresa Teng Li Jun Zou hua Jian (this video has Hanzi and pinyin) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRocEkMpK8U Cai Qing I have to declare that I am not a big fan of Asia Pop/ Euro Pop and the heavy orchestration, but I will suffer through for study purposes.
