toilet

There's a similar divide in Chinese isn't there...some people say 廁所 ce4suo3 (toilet) whilat others say 洗手間xi2shou3jian1 (hand-washing room). I say '洗手間‘ xi2 shou3 jian1 because I find it easier to pronounce!

In England, it's a 'toilet' or a 'loo', if you want to be extra polite, maybe you are in a meeting or something, you might say 'excuse me for a minute'... 'Bathroom' would be a definite Americanism in Europe.
