woodcutter Posted August 3, 2004 at 12:42 AM Report Posted August 3, 2004 at 12:42 AM Whilst I was in China I heard a lot about somewhat second rate soccer players and basketball stars. I don't recall the name of a single table tennis star, however, even though the Chinese guys and gals are the greatest ping-pongers in the universe. Is this because I am foreign, or is the No.1 table tennis player much less famous than Yao Ming or Hao Haidong? Anyway, I'd love to be enlightened about the ping-pong scene! Quote
Quest Posted August 3, 2004 at 02:51 AM Report Posted August 3, 2004 at 02:51 AM 荣国团, 邓亚萍, 孔令辉, 乔红 are some of the old stars. Quote
woodcutter Posted August 24, 2004 at 12:07 AM Author Report Posted August 24, 2004 at 12:07 AM Well, now I have heard of Wang Hao. But shock, horror, the greatest gold medal grabbing ping ponger in the universe is a Korean! Quote
wushijiao Posted August 24, 2004 at 01:11 AM Report Posted August 24, 2004 at 01:11 AM I saw that match while eating at a 井冈山餐馆, yesterday. I think you have to respect the way Wang Hao kept playing aggresively even at Gold Medal point. He never lost his mental compusure. That was the most nerve racking game of ping pong I've ever seen. Quest Posted August 24, 2004 at 01:20 AM Report Posted August 24, 2004 at 01:20 AM he played badly that game, but he has lost to that korean before. The record is 6:2 so far, with Wang having lost twice to the korean. Quote
