Scoobyqueen Posted September 13, 2009 at 06:49 PM Report Posted September 13, 2009 at 06:49 PM When I was in China last, I accidentally ripped a hole in my business trousers. My hotel suggested I had it repaired at a the laundry next door. I was surprised when I collected the item following the repair as they had basically done a makeshift job, running the sowing machine up and down until the hole was covered in sewing lines. When I voiced my dissatisfaction the owner didnt bat an eyelid but just reached from beneath the counter to produce a bag full of designer labels from Dolce Cabana to La Coste and asked me which one I would like. Amazing to imagine that one would just put a fake label on a formal business suit and job done! Just another bemusing incident in China. I was later told it was a virtue to not wear luxurious stuff (and to work hard) so maybe I should just consider it a well-meant lesson in Chinese virtues. (艰苦朴素). Quote
xianhua Posted September 13, 2009 at 07:27 PM Report Posted September 13, 2009 at 07:27 PM I've always had favourable experiences with seamstresses on the street (I am talking about clothes I assure you). They always seem to do a professional job for a competitive price (I've re-typed this several times and it stil sounds dodgy). Being a foreigner I always seem to get priority treatment too (right I give up as this just sounds downright dodgy whichever way I say it...) Quote
self-taught-mba Posted September 13, 2009 at 11:33 PM Report Posted September 13, 2009 at 11:33 PM LOL at above post. Find it is a mixed bag. I first give them my jeans for hemming and see what they do with them before trusting them with anything else. Quote
