dajaphonics Posted September 19, 2009 at 02:38 AM Report Posted September 19, 2009 at 02:38 AM I have been looking for some China related reading. Just to give you an idea of books that I've enjoyed about China so far are: Jan Wong's "Beijing Confidential" and "Red China Blues" (not sure if you can find this titles in China), Peter Hessler's "River Town", and Paul Theroux's "Riding the Iron Rooster". If anyone has any other suggestions of interesting creative writers who tie in stimulating stories with Chinese daily life and or history I would love to hear your suggestions. Also, I have the most recent Beijing Lonely Planet but was looking for some other guidebooks here in China. I checked out the Foreign Languages Bookstore yesterday and found a book I believe written by some people from The Beijinger. I didn't write down the name so I don't recall, but it seemed like it may be a better guidebook than Lonely Planet for Beijing. Any suggestions here would be of great help. Thanks. Quote
gato Posted September 19, 2009 at 03:29 AM Report Posted September 19, 2009 at 03:29 AM There are books that I can recommend, but they are probably not available in China. So why don't you go check out Chaterhouse Books and browse their selection. They are not bad, but of course it's no Barnes & Nobles. http://www.chaterhouse.com.cn/en/contactus.jsp BEIJING 北京: · Shop B107, The Place, 9 Guanghua Road (Dong Da Qiao Road), Chaoyang 北京市朝阳区光华路9号(东大桥路)世贸天阶中心地库107 店 Tel: 010- 6587 1328 Fax: 010- 6587 1329 · 1/F River Garden Clubhouse, No.7 Yuyang Road, Houshayu, Shunyi 北京顺义区后沙峪榆阳路7号,裕京花园俱乐部会所一层 Tel: 010- 8046 6211 Fax: 010- 8046 6211 Quote
