tattoo translation

A friend of mine asked me what her tattoo means. She was told that it was the letter 'A' in the chinese alphabet. When I told her that there is no such thing she was shocked. I said that I would try to find out what her tattoo means, so here it is:

I'm not sure whether it is a character, maybe it's just the letter 'A' in a chinese styled font.

Thx for your help!

It's either a poorly written 女 (woman), or somebody really tried to write the Roman letter "A" using a Japanese/chiseled/"ninja" font.

Like you said, there is no "alphabet" in Chinese, and there is no letter "A". Some tattoo parlours, intentionally or not, cheat people by telling them that there is such a thing.

Another victim of the gibberish Asian font. This is a font template used by many tattoo parlours that is supposedly "the alphabet" in Chinese/Japanese. Most of the characters are actual characters (although some are only partial characters) however they appear to be chosen at random and do not actually correspond to those letters. As renzhe said, there is no alphabet in Chinese.
