DrWatson Posted September 21, 2009 at 03:46 AM Report Posted September 21, 2009 at 03:46 AM Is there a popular social networking site in China and Taiwan? In North America there is Facebook or LinkedIn, in Japan there is Mixi. They have groups where you can connect with people in your region or by interesting. I was just wondering if there is something similar in Chinese language. Quote
yonglin Posted September 21, 2009 at 03:59 AM Report Posted September 21, 2009 at 03:59 AM Well, 校内 is quite popular, from what I've gathered. It's like a Chinese mirror of Facebook. It recently changed names to 人人网 apparently. Quote
gougou Posted September 21, 2009 at 05:13 AM Report Posted September 21, 2009 at 05:13 AM Have a look at these two articles on Danwei (proxy needed): Dan Brody on post-90s Chinese Internet culture Ah Bei, CEO of douban.com, on the website as a "creative stage" Quote
roddy Posted September 21, 2009 at 06:31 AM Report Posted September 21, 2009 at 06:31 AM (edited) Off the top of my head, Xiaonei as mentioned; 开心网 (kaixin001.com) is based around casual gaming (must remember to check how my garden is doing ); Douban is based around music / movies / books, and has some useful location / interest based groups; Fanfou.com is a Twitter equivalent. Jobui I think has been touted as a Chinese version of Linkedin, but looks a bit like a Web 2.0 job site to me. I'm not sure you can say there is 'a' popular SNS - it basically depends what you're looking for. Edited September 21, 2009 at 07:48 AM by roddy Got a url wrong. Sorry, everyone. Quote
DrWatson Posted September 22, 2009 at 01:39 AM Author Report Posted September 22, 2009 at 01:39 AM Thanks for the info everyone! If anyone knows of any popular sites in Taiwan, please do add it to this thread. Quote
crazy-meiguoren Posted September 22, 2009 at 04:15 AM Report Posted September 22, 2009 at 04:15 AM (edited) Facebook also has a Chinese language version. http://zh-cn.facebook.com/ When you get to the Facebook page, you may need to click the 中文 link at the bottom of the page if it still comes up as English. If you click the ">>" next to the list of languages, a window pops up with a complete list of languages. There are additional choices for Taiwan and Hong Kong. Edited September 22, 2009 at 04:34 AM by crazy-meiguoren Give further instructions on accessing the Chinese site if the link comes up in English. - edited again to access Taiwan and HK choices. I'm done now! ;) Quote
